The Prisoner of Azkaban Empty Lupin and the Map

Post  Guest April 18th 2010, 7:32 am

At the climax of the book, when Lupin enters the Shack and explains that he had been watching Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and later Peter wander around the grounds, why didn't he see Harry and Hermione from the future?? Unless he did and ignored it, which would have been strange of him as he had no idea what would happen or even perhaps that Hermione had a Time Turner, he could also have thought it was a glitch, which also doesn't work as he said the map doesn't lie (or Sirius did, I can't remember...), there seems to be a bit of a plot hole there, that's all.

Did anyone else notice this???

Did you listen to Mugglecast today? Very Happy
That's a really great question that I hadn't realized until they'd mentioned it, and then here where you've brought it up. I wonder how that works when there's real-time-you, and future-you running around, if it would read as two of you, or if it would just pick one or the other as your location..
I've honestly tried to think about what I think would be the case, and I can't decide.

[This is Susan on her other account, I can't be biffed re-logging in]

What's Muggle cast? I just realised it as I was re-reading (not to mention cracking up whenever Hermione and Lupin even talked to each other, this forum really influences the experience...)

Hmmm you would think there would be an issue with two people who are the same person there at the same time, possibly the map would just show one...I really don't know. I guess it's one of those sort of paradox senarios

Mugglecast is 3 guys who talk about Harry Potter, it's a podcast you can get free from iTunes, or at http://www.mugglenet.com/mugglecast/

They talked about this idea today (right now they're going through Prisoner of Azkaban, talking about it a couple chapters per episode).

But that's what I was thinking. I feel like it would have the dot on the "present" location of a person, rather than the "future" instance of the person.

Oh, cool, I'll have to check it out sometime...

Yea that was the general conclusion I reached with it, but how the map would know which is which except for some sort of magic explanation bugs me a little too, I suppose the sudden appearence of the future versions could through the map...meh, thinking too much about it hurts my head Smile

-mindblown- Maybe it is because until the people realize they have travelled back in time, they haven't in the magic of the Map?

I FIGURED IT OUT!

BECAUSE IMMA FUCKING GENIUS!!!!!

WHAT IF REMUS SAW THEM ON THE MAP AND KNEW ABOUT THE TIME-TURNER BECAUSE HE WAS A PROFESSOR AND THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD BECAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING FOR SCHOOL (or even if he didn't this still works)

SO HE TOLD DUMBLES ABOUT WHAT HE SAW BEFORE HE HEADED DOWN TO THE SHACK (or afterwards) AND THAT'S HOW DUMBLES KNEW TO SEND HARRY AND HERMIONE BACK IN TIME!!!

OR they didn't show up on the Map when Lupin looked at it because IT HADN'T HAPPENED YET - Harry and Hermione hadn't gone back in time yet... That's my theory.

Sorry tam, I don't agree. Dumbledore had already been making it a little easy for them to get to Buckbeak, and Lupin didn't react in any way that would hint at him knowing about the time changing.

That isn't what I'm saying!!!!!!! *flails because talking outloud makes it sooooooo much easier to explain shit*

What I'm saying is that Remus noticed it but didn't know what it was and told Dumbles (who knew because he's all fucking knowing) then Dumbles uses it to know to send them back
