Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
"Well, the house elves take care of the cooking and cleaning, of course," Andromeda said matter of factly. "As for childrearing, it depends on the family and the father's wishes. Some prefer to have the mother primarily raise the child, while others desire the inclusion of a nanny or house elf." At Violet's remark about her parents, Andromeda tried to see if she could think of any pureblood Lockwood, regretting that she had not studied the family tree more closely; she had simply copied off Narcissa's reponses on their written exams. "I'm sure that someone suitable would want you. And I'm sorry for the loss of your parents," Andromeda said kindly. So her blood status wasn't certain - she was a Slytherin, at the end of the day, so screw what anyone else though. Macnair seemed curious enough, so Violet had to be somewhat desirable.

"Oh, right. I forget about house elves. We never had any at Bobby's. He was my father, sort of. Not technically, but as good as. He raised me for most of my life." She glanced away, shocked at herself for telling so much when she hardly knew the girl, but she felt comfortable around her and figured it wasn't like this was information that would be used against her. It was essentially common knowledge among those who knew Bobby anyway, so all the Death Eaters knew. "I guess it's not really a loss of my parents. I never truly knew them. My father was gone before I was born, and my mother a couple years after. I don't know if they're dead or just ran away." Violet shrugged, but a smile returned to her face despite it all. "All I know is that they were wealthy purebloods in love, but didn't want me to have to live with the reputation that their names would come with, so they separated themselves from me. A little selfish I thought, but all in good intentions I suppose." Another casual shrug. "Hope you're right. I don't fancy being an old maid."

"I'm sorry about Bobby," Andromeda said sincerely. Now she knew why the name sounded familiar; probably one of Bellatrix's ramblings. Poor Violet; hopefully, this year at Hogwarts would be better for her. She would not betray Violet's trust; Violet was not her enemy, so she had no reason to sabotage her. Besides, Violet would make a good ally, possibly even a friend. "I don't know what I do if I never married. Probably would be disowned, to be honest, which I'd like to avoid; I love my family." A small, nagging voice told her that being disowned wouldn't be so bad, but she quickly pushed it to the back of her mind.

"Well here's hoping you won't be disowned. Though I'm sure someone would gladly have you, what with nails as perfect as yours." Violet laughed, her face fully happy once again. "I have a strange feeling that Bobby would be proud if I never married, in a strange sort of way. Always insisted that I ought to know how to survive completely on my own, because you never knew when you'd need to. Said I didn't need a man to protect me, that I should be able to do it myself." She smiled proudly, straightening up in her seat a little. She flexed her foot slightly, feeling the hardness of the knife stuck into her boot by her ankle, a comforting addition to her wardrobe she'd had since she was eight. The shop had begun to get full again, another wave of customers searching for relief from the heat outside. Violet shifted in her seat. "It's getting pretty crowded and I've got a few more errands to run before I head home, but it was really nice to meet you Andromeda, and hopefully I'll see you at Hogwarts in September?" She smiled, standing up, and glanced out the window for a second, almost hoping to see that boy from before there again, but he was gone. She looked at Andromeda again, offering her hand in a goodbye shake.

"It was nice to meet you," Andromeda said. "Good luck with your shopping." Andromeda shook Violet's hand and smiled politely as the girl left. She glanced down at her bowl of ice cream; she still had about half left. Stretching her legs on the seat across from her, she pulled out the lastest edition of Potions Quarterly and read as she slowly finished her last few bites. After the ice cream was gone, she stood up slowly, streching her arms before leaving the ice cream parlour.

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
After a bit of wandering Tracey and Trey decided to stop in for some yummy ice cream. Trey was even more excited than before because he had never had ice cream before - special treats weren't always allowed at their house. When it was their turn to order Trey looked at all the flavors then looked up at his sister, wide-eyed. "Um...what kind should I get?" He asked, somewhat in awe over all the choices.
Tracey giggled, shrugging. "I don't know, silly. Don't vorry, I had the same problem my first time too. Let's see..." she skimmed all the flavors, deciding what she wanted, "I'd like that butterscotch candy ice cream, please." She told the kind man behind the counter. "And I think Trey would really like that chocolate chip cookie ice cream." Trey did like chocolate chip cookies.
They got their ice cream then went to sit for a bit. Trey was surprised to find that the ice cream his sister had picked out for him was really quite tasty. Well, he really couldn't believe he had been missing out on this stuff for so long.
They talked and people watched for about an hour then decided they should head on off to finish getting all of Trey's stuff.

Addie walked into the store, finally glad that something had crossed the cultural divide that was the Atlantic Ocean. Gypsy skirt swishing around her ankles (which covered both her daggers and the throwing knives that peeked out of her boots), her blonde hair braided in a messy plait (with no less than one small stiletto and a garrote resided) , a frazzled and slightly upset Adelia Whiteraven ordered a chocolate-double-dip-frozen-yogurt-with-a-cherry-if-you'd-be-so-kind?. Struggling with the wizard money (in America, they used Muggle money for ease), she paid and then found an empty table-for-two (in America, she'd have had to gotten a bigger table to accommodate her Court) and sat down, shopping bags all akimbo. She smiled up at the waittress who brought her her order.
She slowly licked away at the cone as she watched people walk by. In America, she would have known half of them. Of course, she should get used to the idea of not being in American anymore, and quit being such a whiny brat...but she was rather lonely, the only goddess of a girl among the peasantry. She'd only seen a few people who matched her in some way- the illusion wizard doing kid's shows was actually a lot more skilled than he let on (and a werewolf aside), the Healer at the apothecary knowing spells even she didn't recognised (and he looked vaguely familiar), and then finally that strange silver haired man with the mirror eyes that lay drunk by the side of the road- he held a lot more power than he let on. There were even a few people as beautiful as her, too, but she didn't really count them.
With Adelia Lailah Whiteraven, you either had looks or skill- if you had both, you were her best friend or her worst enemy. And she had a habit of getting those out of the way.

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Violet wandered in, wearing her usual oddly colored skinny jeans and layered tanks, which today consisted of purple jeans and turquoise and lime shirts. She put her elbows on the tall counter and gave Mr. Fortesque a smile, asking for her favorite rainbow ice cream today. It was obvious that she'd been here more than a few times by now based upon the familiarity of which the man spoke to her and retrieved her ice cream, handing her an enormous bowl with rainbow sherbet ice cream, sprinkled with fudge flies. She passed over a handful of sickles and turned to glance around the room, picking somewhere to sit. Another blonde in the corner caught her eye, for what reason she couldn't be positive, and saw that she was eating alone. Last time she had joined a stranger for ice cream had gone rather well, and more friends were always grand to have. Deciding quickly, she moved gracefully between full tables and rested her hand on the back of an empty seat. "Mind if I join you? A bit full around today. Won't ask you too many questions if you're shy, I promise!"

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Adelia looked at the girl's bright colours, which somehow magically carried over to her ice cream. "Nah, it's fine." She gestured to the chair. "Sit yourself on down, doesn't bother me." She took in Violet's features, her hair, her clothes. "I'm Adelia, Adelia Whiteraven. And you are?" Pretty. she thought to herself as Violet sat down. Potential was there, potential for a new friend and maybe a new Court. Adelia held her hand out to shake, careful not to dip her long billowy sleeves (hiding a whip of silver-thread, coiled about one arm and brass knuckles on the inside of the other) into any of the sugary deserts.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Violet smirked happily as she was given the go-ahead to join the girl at her table. She sank into the seat without much preface and grinned at the girl across from her. "Violet Lockwood. Pleasure, Adelia." She paused a second, giving her a good examination before continuing. "You're not from around here, are you?" While waiting for an answer, Violet went to pick up her spoon to take a bite of ice cream, disappointed to find that she had not gotten one. "Bollocks, a spoon." Not to be discouraged, she pulled out her wand and accioed herself a spoon from across the room, earning a miniature lecture from Mr. Fortesque about how she ought not send utensils streaming across his store, and how he had already told her a few times before. She tucked her wand away, gave him a guilty smile that he couldn't help returning, and then stabbed her spoon into the side of the mountain of vividly colored ice cream before her.

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Addie shook here head. "No, I'm from America. Deep South, actually, I've just transferred over." she pulled a letter from her pocket (hiding a packet of salt, of course). "I've been put in Slitheerine?" She shook her head and put it away. "I'm just getting used to-" random flail of her hands "-all of this. You British and your food and weird ways, and then of course Wizarding money is strange. I don't think we even use that in America, I don't even know." she sighed and licked her cone, smiling at Mr. Fortesque's antics and Violet's nice bit of spellwork.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
"America." Violet says it with some thought, as if trying to remember everything she'd learned about American witches at some time or another. She realized it was very little. "Well, welcome to the other side of the pond. Promise we're not so weird once you learn your way around and find out what it is you've been missing all your life." She smirked, reaching into her pocket and holding out her palm with a few coins on it. "The money's not so strange. Galleons, sickles, and knuts," she said, tapping each with her thumb, though she figured she knew by look which was which by now. "7 sickles to the galleon, 29 knuts to the sickle, and 493 knuts to the galleon, simple enough. I think to compare it to your American money, a knut is a little more than a penny, a sickle is a little more than two of your big silver quarter things, and a galleon is about ten of the paper ones, with the 1 on them. Oh, and it's Slytherin, by the way. That's where I am, too," she added, correcting the pronunciation of the house. "How did they sort you already? Just curious. I know most transfers have to wait until the first day, and do it along with the first years."

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Vee walked into Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, smiling, and sat down at a table. She placed her tote on the other chair, saving a seat for Jenna. She glanced casually at the menu, attempting to decide between 50 delectable flavors, twisting the new/old ring placed around the middle finger of her left hand. The jade shone as if it were new. She glanced out the window to her right, facing Diagon Alley, filled with yellow, end-of-summer sunlight.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
Jenna walked into the bustling ice cream shop with a smile on her face. Ice cream was her very favorite and she could hardly contain her glee when Vee suggested that they meet there. She walked over to the table where she saw Vee sat, with an empty chair that had been saved for her. "VEE!" Jenna yelled from halfway across the room. She had spent the summer playing Quidditch every day and you could tell by her more defined muscles, and she had the air of a seasoned player.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Vee quickly drew her bag off the chair, just in time to avoid Jenna squashing it's contents. And covered her ears; Jenna's screech was loud. "Enna! How was your summer!?" She asked the red-haired girl across from her.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
Jenna laughed, Vee was quite an entertaining friend to have. "My summer was amazing, I spent the whole time playing Quidditch. Dad even sometimes would let me come to Puddlemere United Quidditch practices so I got to play with professionals! It was the highlight of my life! How was your summer?"
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Vee laughed too. "Wow! Awesome! Well, it was alright. As good as it could be with my mother. I went to visit my cousin for a bit, which was a nice break. Otherwise I spent a lot of time in my room, challenging myself to read every book I owned in alphabetical order. I managed to finish before August ended! And I spent a lot of time outdoors. Oh, and my room when through some drastic changes. I decided I wanted a small kitchen, I felt bad for Remmy having to go up all those stairs to bring me my meals, she's getting old." Vee said. "I didn't want to dine with mum." She added as an explanation. "I learned some wonderful recipes!"
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
Jenna smiled in a grin so wide, it almost hurt her face. She had missed her friend. "Oh! What did you learn how to make? We can have a cooking session in the kitchens when we get back and make ourselves enough brownies to last us until Halloween. I know a charm that will keep them fresh."
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Vee missed Jenna too. "A lot. Chicken pot pie, fried chicken, broccoli, omelets, french onion soup, various cakes and baked goods... The list goes on." Vee had a very filling summer, if not entertaining. "We shall have to have a midnight feast sometime."
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
Jenna nodded vicariously, "Yes, we have to! We're seventh years now and this is our time to do things like that. Even though we did them once a month last year." Jenna was still as awkward socially as she had been a year ago. But she was much more confident in other ways. This year, she decided, she wasn't going to try out for chaser again. She had realized that she really had missed beating over the summer and decided that that, was what she wanted to do. She hoped she would make the team. She was small, but strong.
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
Vee has realised that she is going to be against Jenna for quidditch. DAMMIT! And since when has Jenna been socially awkward? And since when have we been Seventh Years? We are 6th, I though! "I think I might try out for seeker this year." Vee decided. "I get hurt too much when I play beater. And these midnight feasts sound... Delectable!"
Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
[I'm pretty sure we're seventh's but whatever.]
Jenna leaned her head to decide, a thoughtful expression on her face, which slowly changed into a slight smirk, "You know what they say though don't you? What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I think that applies here nicely." Jenna nodded. She was in the affirmative quite a lot today. But now, the important stuff. "Should I get mint chip ice cream, or should I go with the peanut butter?"

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour
[YOU TOLD ME TO BE A FIFTH YEAR!]
Vee twisted the ring on her finger anxiously. She didn't like playing against Jenna. "I know what I'm getting! Nutella-flavored!" With whipped cream and chopped nuts. Yumyumyumyumyum.
[Nutella flavored ice cream is seriously one of the wonders of the world.]

Re: Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor
[I have no memory of this whatsoever.]
Jenna thought for a moment, she didn't want to play against Vee either. But that's what you get when your best friend switches houses on you. "I'll just go with the mint chocolate chip." She could steal Vee's nutella, keeping with tradition. She would get her mint chip with rainbow sprinkles, caramel sauce and whipped cream. Which was the only acceptable way to eat it in her mind [and mine].
