"Er...no, things are a bit worse off now." Remus shrugged, knowing Dean would probably ask but he wanted to try and calm down his brother first. "I don't think that was crazy of you at all, Dean." he smiled sadly at his brother as he grabbed his hands to keep him from pulling more grass out. "You were always there for her and from what you've told me I can tell you've spent a lot of time together, you'd have every right to think that. You're a great guy, not to mention good looking," he grinned, trying to say optimistic things to cheer Dean up, "I know it's hard...thinking about how there's other girls out there - or, in my case, guys-" he adds, mumbling slightly bitterly, "but there are. And someday you just might find someone else who you think is just perfect." he reddens slightly, embarrassed, "Sorry...I'm probably not the best at giving advice, especially relationship advice." Especially since I totally screwed my own over pretty much.

Dean wanted so much to believe the words Remus was saying. He tried envisioning himself with some faceless girl, laughing and being happy again. But before long, the face turned into Luna's and he let out a groan. "Uggh, this sucks. And no, you're great at giving advice! I'm sure someday I'll be able to believe what you're saying." He tried to smile as he looked up at his brother. Suddenly something clicked in his brain as he stared at Remus, and he hit himself on the head. "I'm an idiot! I'm so sorry Remus! I can't believe I forgot! It's your birthday today! Just, forget about everything I said, let's celebrate or something. Seventeen is a big birthday! You shouldn't be spending it with your mopey brother. I'm so sorry!" He felt terrible for forgetting his own brother's birthday, and he vowed to make up for it.

Remus shrugged, smiling lightly at Dean. "Honestly, it's okay. I haven't really been in the mood for...partying stuff. I've been trying to hide from the other Marauders all day." Especially one in particular. "This is probably one of the...ickiest birthdays I've had in ages. But at least I got to meet a nice new kid today, and now I get to see you." he smiled. "I'd rather be with you right now than anyone else. Even just sitting here. Though maybe we should go get some chocolate..." he chuckled.

Dean looked at Remus sadly for a moment before pulling him into a big bear hug. "I'm sorry Remus! I should have been around to make your day less icky. You want to talk at all? Oh! I have some chocolate in my ba--" He looked around for his bag and then facepalmed again. "Oh no! I left all my stuff up on the tower!"

Remus hugs Dean back tightly, chuckling as he pulls back and watches Dean facepalm. "Well, you could always summon it all here, or we could go up there and grab your stuff then go find some place quiet. Not that this place isn't quiet." Considering they were the only ones around right now. "And don't worry about apologizing, Dean. Honestly I can't wait until it's tomorrow and it's just another day. I don't feel any older...I just feel, well, miserable. I don't normally admit to that, you know? Only to you and...Sirius," he mumbles the name quietly.

Dean thought about how all his things were up there...with Luna. Oh crap. He would deal with that later, right now he wanted to cheer his brother up if he could. "No, it should be okay. All my stuff is labeled, so no one can steal it." He smiled weakly at his brother. "I'm sorry brother. Did mum and dad send you their gift? Was it a watch? I promise, I will make this up to you! I'll get you something amazing, and we'll spend much more time together. Okay?" He put his arm around Remus and leaned his head on his brothers shoulder.

"Yeah, I got their gift this morning." He pulls a watch out of his pocket and shows it to Dean. "Shiny, huh? And honestly you don't have to get me anything. I'm just glad we're getting to spend time together. You always managed to cheer me up." he smiled, hugging Dean tightly.

Dean examined the watch with a grin. "Oooh, it is shiny! Good gift! Looks like something mum would pick out." He hugged his brother back tightly. "I'm glad too. You can always cheer me up as well." He sighed deeply. "I don't know what I'm suppose to do now. She's obviously going to know something is wrong. I mean, I just walked out on her when she said she was going on a date. What am I suppose to do if I see her, and she asks about it?"

"Mum definitely probably picked this out." Remus chuckled. He rubbed his brother's back comfortably. "You know...I'm not sure how this would work, because honestly I'd probably never do it myself since I'm a chicken, but maybe if you just...told her about your feelings and see what happens? Or I'm just thinking crazy. I don't know."

Dean smiles up at his brother. "Yeah. I've done that before with her. Didn't work out too well last time either. How about I just avoid her and hope it all goes away? Yeah?" He laughed once without humor then remembered something. "OH NO! REMUS! I LEFT MY SKETCHPAD! LUNA WAS STILL UP THERE! WHAT IF SHE LOOKED AT IT? OH NO! OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO." He put his head in his hands and start shaking his head back and forth, as if he could shake the thoughts away.

"Er...I don't think avoiding her or the situation will help. Look what happened with me and Sirius..." Yeah, cause if Remus had done a better job handling that whole situation then maybe he'd still be with Jack right now. "er, sorry to be such a downer." he facepalmed. He winced when Dean exclaimed loudly in horror about the fact that his sketchpad was still up there and Luna could have looked at it. Loud noises always hurt his ears, but he knew there was nothing he could do about it so there was no point complaining. "Oh dear..." he held Dean close, rubbing his back, "don't worry, I'm sure she wouldn't just look in your stuff, Dean. Especially since it's personal."

Dean let Remus comfort him. "Sorry for shouting. I know you don't like it. The thought just kind of hit me strong. Oh dear Gods, please let her not see what's in there. Because if she did, oh boy..that's going to be bad. Oh, I can't believe I've been so stupid!" He rested his head on his brothers shoulder again. "No, you're fine. I'm the one being the downer. How have you really been brother? I don't think we've talked since..." He bit his lip a little nervously. "Since you and Jack broke up. Are you okay?"

"It's okay, Dean. You can shout if you'd like." He smiled. He'd put up with pretty much anything from Dean, he just loved his brother that much. "And you're not stupid, so don't say that." he poked Dean in the side just for fun. He sighed at Dean's question, shrugging. "I've been okay, I guess. Things have just been rather lame these past couple of weeks, although I did have a lovely conversation with Lily the other day. Oh and...things are sort of awkward between me and Sirius right now because...well, he told me he's interested in guys as well but..." he couldn't help gritting his teeth, still feeling somewhat angered over this whole thing, "he just wanted us to remain friends. Looks like I sort of lost out everywhere, didn't I?" he muttered bitterly.

Dean jumped a little when he was poked in the side, letting out a little giggle that was totally not manly at all. He didn't really care, since he was with Remus and he never judged Dean. "I'm sorry brother. Wish there was something I could to to help. But hey, at least we still have each other!" He said it in a really corny, over sappy way in hopes that they would both cheer up a little.

Remus is amused at Dean's very not manly giggle, but of course he does not judge Dean because Dean's his brother and is awesome. He grins at Dean's corny, overly sappy remark. "You're going all chick flick-y on me, bro." he smirks. "It's alright though...honestly, I really appreciate the fact that you're here for me to talk to. And you know I'll always be here for you as well. Even if I don't always know the right things to say."

Dean laughs an actually good belly laugh. "Sorry, had to." He looks over at Remus with a grin. "And I'm glad you're here too. And neither of us have ever really been that great at advice giving, but we really rock at listening. Right? Right!" He laughed a little more then sighed contently. He really did feel a little better after talking to his brother, like always.

Dean's laugh is infectious and Remus laughs too. He smiles, nodding in agreement at Dean's comment. "Yes, we are rather good at listening." He was feeling better now, definitely. "This day's not so bad now. Thanks, Dean." he smiled brightly.

Dean returns the smile happily. "And thank you Remus! I don't know how you do it, but you always seem to find me when I think I just want to be alone. But I usually end up glad that you came. And hey, I think we'll both figure out...our lives sooner or later. We're still young, right?" He chuckled once more.

"Well, I'm your brother. It's my job to show up at times when you don't want people around so I can cheer you up." He grinned, laughing. "And you're right. We're still young. We have plenty of time to figure things out." You more so than I. Remus was rather limited in his options for the future, but not Dean, and Remus hoped that Dean made the best of things.

Dean smiled some more. "Oh hey, did you want to go inside and get some chocolate? I could always cook you up a birthday cake! That's one of the very few things I actually know how to bake." He laughed at his horrible baking skills, but at least he knew how to cook.

"That sounds like a fun time." Remus laughed. He was pretty good at baking so they could always work together. It'd be more fun that way. "As long as whatever we end up making is chocolate-y and edible then we'll be good." He stood, reaching a hand down to help pull Dean up.
