Dee nodded. "They must have all this pent up sexual frustration, and no one even knows. If anyone ever wanted to have sex, they could just go find a Puff, and everything would be fine and dandy."

"Exactly! Guess I won't go for a Puff in that case. I cant' stand easy girls. I like a bit of a challenge, and I can so see a Puff just throwing themselves all over anyone who'll take them."

"Milli Vane. And she's definitely different from the other girls I've seen around here, so I'm hoping things will be interesting tonight," he said with an excited grin.

Jesse shrugged. "Hogsmeade. I want to make sure she's as awesome as I think she is before doing anything too special, you know? Nothing worse than pulling out all the stops, only to have the date be with some lame girl."

Dee nodded, seeing his point. "So, where in Hogsmeade, then?" she asked. "Just the Three Broomsticks or something? That definitely wouldn't qualify as pulling out all the stops, I think, because that's where everybody goes."

Jesse nodded. "Most likely. But we'd go at night when there aren't loads of people around. It always gets so crowded at the Three Broomsticks during the day," he said with a sigh as he started thinking about his date with Milli.

Lily is here, a nice warm sweater on to shield her from the cold, perched on a rock and alternating between reading the book in her lap -the Charms book from Potter that she has made certain never to let him see her with, but cannot resist reading because it's interesting- and staring out over the water, enjoying the pretty view.

Severus was walking by the lake when he saw Lily sitting reading. He still felt that the events at the end of the past year were regrettable but he knew that at this point there was no point to apologizing to her again when she knew it was a mistake. He walked over and sat down next to her, "Hello Lily. New book?"

Lily glances up as a shadow passes over her book and then someone settles next to her. She stares, her face going blank and her eyes cool. "Yes," she says simply, then turns her eyes back to the page while she contemplates her next move. She misses Sev, she really does, but she doesn't trust him. While she tries to figure out if she should scream at him, or just get up and walk away, she sits silently and lets her eyes flick absently over the page, trying to pretend he doesn't exist.

Severus watched her eyes moving but he could tell she wasn't readying. He knew her, or had known her, better than he knew himself. Every emotion was shown in her emerald eyes and he had always looked to them for cues. He pulled a book out his own bag and waited patiently for her to say something knowing he would only get curt dismissals.

Lily sighs inwardly as Sev simply pulls out a book of his own, showing no signs of leaving. Of course, she thinks bitterly, he couldn't make it easy for her. She gives up on pretending to read the Charms book and looks out over the water again. It seems to soothe her a little, looking at the dark blue water and remembering the afternoon Gideon had commandeered a boat from Merlin knows where to take her on a lake picnic. "What are you doing here?" she finally asks when she's found both a little calmness and her voice.

Severus shrugged, "Can't I just sit and read a book?" He glanced at her, "I assumed we could at least sit in the same vicinity as each other." He knew she wished he would leave but he wasn't about to give in that soon. He missed her far more than she could know and the events at the end of last year had driven him to make some incredibly bad choices that he could never undo.

Lily feels Sev's coal black eyes burning into her as he glances at her but she doesn't tear her own gaze from the calming blue lake. "And you're sure your friends won't see any problem with you sitting so close to a Mudblood?" she asks, her tone almost conversational even as she shifts to put another inch between them.

Severus shot her a sharp look and turned back to his book, "Are you sure Potter isn't going to run over to curse me now, overprotective as he seems to be." He rolled his eyes and turned a page in his book, actually absorbing some of the information. She seemed to have given up on the pretense of reading.

"What's Potter have to do with anything, least of all me?" Lily snaps. She knows Potter still bullies and hounds Sev every chance he gets, but she's not caught him out at it in months. Not since the Mudblood Incident, it seems. "I don't need him protecting me. Though with the people you've been hanging round with, could you blame anyone for being concerned for me right now?" she says. She knows it's a low blow; even with everything that's happened, the idea that Sev would ever actually really hurt her is just somehow fantastically impossible to Lily, but some of his friends she knows would do so without batting an eyelid.

Severus turned his face at that and gave her a sharp look, "Have any of them approached you?" After a second he spoke again, "But as far as they're concerned I don't think it's one of your rights to ask anymore." He gave her a hard look before turning back to his book, he didn't want to discuss them with her. Ever.

"And there's my answer," Lily says quietly, reading more into his refusal to talk about them than anything else. She looks at him for a few seconds and then turns back to the lake. Good memories, she thinks, focusing on the water as hard as she can. In her mind's eye, she sees the look of complete surprise on Gideon's face when she'd tossed him overboard with a little flick of her wand. Her lip twitches upwards for a fraction of a second. Her eyes move on to the dock, and she pictures the look of complete and adorable contrition on Ted's face when he was in deep trouble. The lip twitch happens again. "No, they've not approached me," she finally says.

Severus Snape February 25th 2011, 8:40 am

Severus stayed silent when she said that was her answer. He wasn't pleased with her response but at least she was speaking to him. He glanced at her in time to see the twitch at the corners of her lips. He nodded when she said no one has approached her, "Good. I'm glad to hear it." He kept reading his book, intrigued that she hadn't stormed away from him yet.

Lily falls silent once more, having nothing to say to that. She can't hold in a tiny huff of annoyance, though. What's he playing at, anyway, coming over here and sitting next to her like he has a right to be anywhere near her? Lily huddles into her sweater a little, drawing as much warmth as she can from the soft yarn and chewing on her lip. She wants to leave, but why should she go? She was here first. She wants to ask him to leave, but would he listen? It's painful, the memories his presence brings her, but Lily keeps her face blank and cool and continues to pretend she's somewhere else.

Severus ignored her little huff and sat there, still waiting for her to make a move or say something. He knew this would be frustrating for her but he wasn't about to cave in and give her what she wanted. He turned another page of the book and had to stop himself from constantly turning to look at her. He wished he could go back and change what had happened that afternoon but he couldn't understand why she didn't let him explain. It had been a high tension situation and she knew that Potter and Black got him riled up like nothing else. It had also been one of the most humiliating moments of his life and those two buffoons could pat themselves on the back for destroying the rest of his life. It was because of the events that afternoon that he had sworn himself to the dark side, because of them he could never roll his sleeves up around her again. He wished she would just talk to him again even though nothing could be the same again, he just missed his best friend.

The longer the silence drags on, the angrier Lily gets. He'd called her Mudblood. After six years of friendship, he'd revealed his true thoughts, in the one moment where his tongue was loose and his thoughts unguarded he'd finally blurted that to him, she was filth. And now he sits down next to her as if nothing is wrong and prepares for a quiet afternoon of companionable reading? Sometimes Lily gets so lonely that she feels the loss of her best friend like a physical ache in the middle of her, but this is not the Severus Snape she knew and loved almost like a brother. No. Lily actually shakes her head at that. "I don't want you near me, Sev."

He had made it through almost ten pages of his book before she spoke again, it wasn't particularly interesting reading and he was more skimming it to see if any of it was new information for him. When she shook her head he noticed the movement and was just turning to look at her as she spoke. He couldn't deny that the words hurt him but he wasn't about to let her know. Instead he slipped his book back into his bag and shrugged at her, "I'll leave then, but it was good to see you Lily." He slipped the bag over his shoulder and headed back to the school. He wished she would just realize what an accident the whole thing had been and would give him another chance but it seemed no matter what he tried she would never be able to forgive him.

Lily doesn't respond, even though her mouth opens the tiniest bit as if she will because she finds that she actually really wants to. She clamps it shut again, pressing her lips together in a thin line and telling herself that it's too dangerous, letting Sev back in, giving him an opening to hurt her again. In the end she simply does not acknowledge his words or his departure. Curling in on herself a little, she draws her knees up to her chest and hugs them, resting her chin on the tops of her knees as she continues to stare out over the lake. Trying to think of happier memories no longer seems to be working. Her vision blurs and swims, and it isn't until the first droplet of water splashes onto her knee that Lily realises she's crying. Lily swipes angrily at her face, telling herself to stop being such a child, but she's powerless to stop the slow coursing of silent tears down her cheeks so she gives up and lets them flow.
