Summer/Transition From 2.0 to 3.0

So, basically, the Mod squad and I have spent the last couple of days working really hard on ideas of how we can try to accommodate as many people as possible, stemming from Elise's suggestion that we begin 3.0 early. Essentially, from a logical standpoint, we've come to the realisation that starting 3.0 significantly early is not going to be the most beneficial option for the forum as a whole. We thought that some of the ideas surrounding this suggestion were well worth exploring, though, so we've tried to brainstorm some other scenarios that might give people a greater opportunity for RP, and a bit of variety as well (as well as being things that we can reasonably accommodate and sustain for AWF).

2.0 will end on August 31st, 3.0 will begin on September 1st. This will be the same of every year - years run from September 1st, to August 31st. There are two options for giving people a 'Summer', and potentially a slight crossover between 2.0 and 3.0 for those who are really keen to get into 3.0 early.

Here are the two most viable options for the month of August and the transition period between 2.0 and 3.0. Please vote for your preferred option, comments and suggestions will all be welcomed:

Option 1: On July 31st (or thereabouts) a 'graduation ceremony' will be held. A day later, a subsection will be opened up for people to have an end-of-2.0 summer. Places like Diagon Alley, Muggle London, and the Ministry of Magic will be included. For that month, people may choose to RP anywhere they like - either at Hogwarts or outside of it. 2.0 will close on August 31st, and 3.0 will open on September 1st. While this does not begin 3.0 any earlier, it gives people the option to have that Summer RP - characters who haven't had much chance to RP throughout the year, but have more time in Summer, would be able to catch up with friends, go to family home threads, etc. and those who would rather finish their 2.0 with the school year ending, can also do so.

OR

Option 2: Things will run as usual for 2.0 until August 31st. On August 15th (or thereabouts), a small section of 3.0 consisting of Diagon Alley will be released in order to give people a chance to RP planning for the term ahead, which will start on September 1st. As this involves an overlap of timing between 2.0 and 3.0, it involves a shorter time period, and a smaller space (Diagon Alley only will be created, the rest of the 3.0 spaces will not be released until September 1st). Also, there will be rules involved. 2.0 and 3.0 are in no way affiliated, so if you are using a character in 2.0 that you will drop for 3.0, you will not be permitted to bring that character into the Diagon Alley 3.0 section. Also, if a character is changing hands, the 2.0 owner will have rights to that character until September 1st, unless they elect to have the changeover sooner. This option gives people a chance to have that start-of-year planning time, to catch up with friends and prepare for September 1st and the return to Hogwarts, without disadvantaging the people who would like to see out the alloted time for 2.0.

Note: Whichever option is the most popular, if it proves viable, will potentially be adopted as standard procedure for subsequent years.
