Burt only has the car shop...and he and Carole said that they had to use their honeymoon money for Dalton tuition. But if he could afford all that, then why was tuition an issue?
The writers are all guys, so I doubt that the dollar amount for clothes mean anything to them. They just know the names are big, and good, and that Kurt would wear them, so they slap those clothes on him like it's no big deal.

Well....
I think they were pretty well off, actually.
They had a nice house.
Kurt had nice clothing.
And he had a really nice car.
But there's a difference in paying for nice clothes/cars and paying for tuition for a nice school.
And now it's not just Kurt and Burt.
They have an entire family to support. *nods*
