Re: Parkinson Home
I just died. I can't even breathe.
Draco stared at Leo for a second at the library comment before turning back to his burger and taking a drink of water. When Pansy spoke he almost spat it across the table as he knocked his knee into hers harder and shot her a semi-playful glare.

Re: Parkinson Home
Leo chuckled at his daughter. Sometimes the things she said never failed to take him by surprise. It was times like this that he was reminded he never needed to worry about her turning into someone like Muffy. She had definitely inherited her mind from him, which was exceptionally promising. He cursed again the fact that he never got to raise her like he wanted when she was little, from the time she could stand, baptized in the fire of combat, taught never to retreat, never to surrender, but alas his wife had denied him, stolen their little girl away and dressed her in ribbons. "Fair enough. Tell me about your potions project, Draco. Pansy mentioned it yesterday."

Re: Parkinson Home
Pansy laughed when her father did, turning to look at Draco. "Ow!" She continued laughing, more softly now, as he glared at her, and her father quickly changed the subject to something a little better for lunch conversation. Pansy went back to quietly eating her fruit and crackers, only small laughs escaping now and again.
Re: Parkinson Home
Draco rolled his eyes and wished that Leo wasn't there so he could give her a kiss but sadly the large scary man was still there so he couldn't. "Professor Slughorn has given seven of us the opportunity to work on individual potions designs based on a simple single function potion that could be found premade in any apothecary. I chose a sleeping draughts and my modifications will eventually allow it to instantly put a person into a deeper timed sleep. Dosage, be it by quantity or concentration, will control the time of the sleep. It wil be of use to people like mediwizards and soldiers who need more time awake but cannot sacrifice alertness." Draco looked at Leo to see what he thought, taking a sip of water.
Re: Parkinson Home
Leo did that weird smile thing where the corners of your mouth go down, the face you make when someone mentions something you'd never thought of and were mildly impressed by. "Hm. Interesting. I assume it could also be used for patients who must sleep through something, rest in order to recover? How do you plan on altering the potion to achieve this?" Leo was genuinely interested in this, glad to see that the boy had some creativity and motivation, and obviously some success and esteem in the eyes of his professor if he was one of a chosen seven to work on such a project. Those would all be good qualities as he made his way to becoming a proper Death Eater.

Re: Parkinson Home
Pansy had heard this all before, though some of the more technical aspects of it went over her head. She figured those bits of the description of the project would be coming up soon, and her dad and Draco would chat about it for a while, since they both tended to be interested by potions and the things they could do. She distracted herself, making teepees out of triangles of cheddar. Sheesh, Pansy, you're like seven years old right now.
Re: Parkinson Home
Draco couldn't resist and took a french fry and knocked down her teepees as he answered Leo, "Well the first step of the project was redesigning the original potion to test how different ingredient preperations alter the function of the potion. Then it's all about making small changes. For instance with mine I added rat spleens and altered the function of the mandrake leaves and roots."

Re: Parkinson Home
Leo chuckled again as Pansy scowled at Draco, rebuilding her knocked over teepees. Returning his attention to the boy, he nodded at his explanation. "I see. Had you thought perhaps about the effects of spine of lionfish? I know it has a rather potent way of enhancing effects of sensation, though it may perhaps be too strong for what you are doing. Generally it is used in very small doses with weaker potions for healing and the like. A few others, but I should hope you're not experienced in those quite yet." Yep, lionfish spine would totally be in something like wizard K-Y or whatever. Leo would know about that, since his idiot wife probably can't get him off without some help these days. She probably tries to talk the whole time, but now we're talking about Leo's sex life, and Pansy is screaming and not wanting to think about it at all. "Scarab beetles might also have an interesting effect, given that they're a crucial element of any wit-sharpening potion. That could perhaps come into play after one wakes up from using the potion, creating the alertness you spoke about."

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco ignored the pointed comment about his sex life with Pansy because A) He wouldn't need that and B) He's been distracted by potions which means Draco is in the nerd zone and honestly Pansy could be all up on his lap right now and he would probably keep talking. Probably. Anyway Draco nodded eagerly at the scarab suggestion, "Slughorn and I were talking about the beetles but currently I'm working on the timing formula before I introduce special types of sleeps to it. Making a base potion that I can divide up and build different functions onto. One other thing is to make it safe so that the person can be woken from the sleep in the case of an emergency as with the current brews on the market, at least the strong ones, they are almost impossible to wake people from, it has to be a long term natural sleep."
Re: Parkinson Home
Pansy would like to interject and say that is probably not true, that if she was slipping her leg up over his and letting her hand wander up the inside of his thigh and kissing his neck right now, he would not ignore her for potions. But she didn't do any of that, she's just boredly eating crackers while the men in her life nerd out.
Re: Parkinson Home
"Understandable." Leo nodded as Draco explained the process he had intended to follow for this project, and it was a quite logical one. Making the potion functional first, and then enhancing it after. "Indeed, it would probably be very well received on the market should you be successful. A potion that is functional yet easily woken from does not yet exist. Clever thinking, Draco." Leo nodded affirmatively, quite impressed by the boy's project and intelligence on the subject. "Apart from potions, what's been occupying your time? Anything interesting?"

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco smiled at the praise from Leo, approval from him meant a lot an hopefully it meant that his own father would be proud of him too, "Not much else. Just the usual classes and then a little dueling practice and workouts stuck in here and there. Pansy will tell you that almost spare moment I'm in the potions lab working." He gave her an apologetic look and pressed his knee against hers, eating a little more of his lunch.
Re: Parkinson Home
"Good, good. All very well spent time that will pay off when it counts." Leo didn't notice his daughters disappointed look or the glance Draco gave her. He was too busy thinking that Draco seemed to be a rather put together young man who would be fully capable of all the things becoming a Death Eater would require of him. When he finally took notice of his little girl again, she was stabbing a triangle of cheese with a grape, and making quite good process at actually chopping through it. "Well, I can see that we're boring someone." He laughed a little, putting his empty plate aside, a house elf appearing almost instantly to pick it up. "You can go do whatever you like, Flower, I just want to chat with Draco for a bit longer." The elf also gathered Pansy's plate as she sighed and got up, wandering away a little dejectedly. "I think she's more interested in physical prowess and the stars, than potions and classes. She's been practicing dueling, hasn't she?"

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco nodded, "Yes she has been but not as much as she was at the start of the year I think, she's getting back into the astronomy more. Honestly I'm not really sure because unless she comes and drags me away or we're studying together I'm working on that potion." He gave the little elf his plate and sighed, "And I know she hates it when I go off to meetings or I spend whole days working but there's nothing I can do about it."
Re: Parkinson Home
Leo seemed disappointed when Draco said Pansy didn't practice as much as she used to. He thought for a moment to talk to her about it and make sure she gets back on track with it, but considering it was her last year at Hogwarts, and she'd gotten sufficiently more practice than most girls her age, he figured she would be okay. Especially seeing as she'd be married off sometime this summer to a good smart heir who could fight for her. She would have no need. He swept the disappointed look from his face, listening to Draco talk again. "She'll soon realize that's how things have to be and she'll get over it. She's very resilient. It was the same for the first while when I left all the time, but she soon grew up a little, it just seems she'll have to grow up a little more." But what Leo didn't realize was that Pansy never had gotten over it, she still resented him for leaving so much when she was young. She had merely gotten better at hiding it.

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco nodded, but really he wished that Pansy never had to get used to it. That he could just be there for her all the time and that he didn't have to serve the dark lord but alas he didn't have a choice and was forced into the life of their fathers. He was silent for a moment, considering his relationship with Pansy. He knew she wished they spent more time together where his head wasn't in a book but having this weekend and talking to Leo was reminding him just how much of his life was going to be devoted to the Dark Lord's whims. Still at the same time he knew he couldn't live without her, even sleeping without her at this point was, if he was going to be honest with himself, completely miserable and sometimes impossible. He knew he was forming too deep of an attachment but he couldn't stop himself, no matter how hard he tried to pull away he kept failing. Without realizing it he still hadn't spoken again and was instead staring at the tablecloth.
Re: Parkinson Home
Leo waited for the boy to answer, but it appeared he was quite lost in his thoughts. He tilted his head a little. "Draco?" Once he was sure he'd gotten his attention again, he continued. "Don't worry about her." It wasn't a reassuring sort of thing, as if he were saying she'd be alright. It was issued as a command, that the boy shouldn't worry about Pansy because first off, there were more important things to occupy his thoughts these days, and secondly, it would only make it more difficult to convince Pansy to marry whoever he and Muffy chose for her if Draco was still worrying about her, and she about him.

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco wanted to throw something at Leo, he wanted to stand up and tell the man that Pansy was more important than anything else and that she deserved to be held above an idiot with no nose but he didn't because a) he didn't want to die and b) because the fact he had such strong feelings about the matter terrified him. He nodded at Leo but couldn't bring himself to say out loud that he wouldn't. Mostly because he knew that Leo would know he was lying.
Re: Parkinson Home
Leo could sense that Draco hadn't exactly liked that, but it was best to be confronted directly with how things had to be. Just as Pansy needed to grow up and deal with the fact that she can't have people do just what she wants them to do, Draco also needed to grow up. Some things have more priority than others, and you can't always get what you want, no matter how rich your daddy might be. His Flower was one of those things right now, and Leo was quickly seeing that Draco was on a fast track to learning that the hard way. Some part of him wanted to separate the two. Not to force them to grow up, or for his own cruel enjoyment, or even because he didn't like Draco. He was rather fond of the boy if he were honest with himself. Instead, it was because he wanted to put Pansy with someone who could be there for her. Someone without loyalties to the Dark Lord to keep them away from her. He liked to think he knew his daughter rather well, and he knew she would be the sort of girl to want someone around as much as possible. She never did like being left by herself, which was why he'd gotten her the ferret at the beginning of the year, knowing at least the little creature could keep her company when her friends, or at least Draco, couldn't be around. "Just trust me on that, Draco. It's better in the end for the both of you."

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco nodded again but still disagreed with him. He knew that Leo, unlike his own father, only cared about what he thought would make his child happy but that didn't mean that Draco had to like it. All Draco knew was that his life was already split between the two and there was only one part he wanted to give up and only one he could give up but they weren't the same parts. He looked up at Leo to meet his eyes, "I understand Sir." Because that was true, he did understand. He just wasn't going to do anything about it.
Re: Parkinson Home
Though he would have preferred to continue talking with the boy about some more serious points that would be coming up in his life before he realized it, he knew that by now the efforts would be futile. Though instructed otherwise, the poor boy's mind would be too busy worrying over his daughter to pay proper attention to the important things right now. They could always talk again after dinner. Standing up from his seat, he pushed it under the table and nodded to Draco. "I'll be getting back to my study, I think. You're excused to go back and be with Pansy if you wish, though should you want to join me in the study, you're quite welcome there as well." He picked up his book and left the kitchen to go to the stairwell leading down to his study, leaving Draco alone to choose, though he'd bet quite a number of galleons he knew what the end result would be.

Re: Parkinson Home
Draco thinks Leo just won the bag of galleons because as soon as Leo was gone Draco headed off upstairs to find his girlfriend. He hurried from place to place, checking both their rooms and then the library to no avail. Where the hell was she hiding. After hunting through several more rooms he found a small side parlor that he didn't think he'd been in before. Opening the door he saw her head just peeking out over the sofa. He smiled and walked in, quietly closing the door behind him. Walking up behind her he leaned over the back of the sofa and wrapped his arms around her, "Hey you."
Re: Parkinson Home
Pansy sat in the small dark room, a book open on her lap though she hadn't turned the page since she opened it. She stared off into the distance, zoning out looking at the light filtering through the curtains. As much as she loved this room, she couldn't concentrate in here. Too many sad memories of her nine year old self in this room. She blinked as Draco appeared over her shoulder, his warm arms instantly around her. She rested her hands on his arms and turned to smile at him. "Hi."
Re: Parkinson Home
Draco leaned down and gave her a kiss before moving his arms a little so he could climb over the back of the sofa, half rolling over it to land next to her, "Couldn't find you at first. I don't remember this room." He looked around for a second before deciding he could focus on the room another time and wrapping his arms around her to pull her into a hug, completely ignoring everything her father had just said to him.
Re: Parkinson Home
Pansy laughed softly as he tumbled over the back of the couch to sit with her. "Yeah, I don't come in here much." She wrinkled her nose slightly, leaning into him as he hugged her, curling her legs up on the couch and resting her head on his shoulder. "Actually I've not really been in here for years. I forgot how pretty it kind of is. The light at least."
