*Hermione's jolted out of her little fit by Nikki's presence. She leans into the hug, but slowly starts to calm down and wipes her face with the sleeve of her jumper. What the hell is wrong with her, anyway, that she has a complete meltdown over a stupid bloody letter!? Taking a few deep breaths, she works on composing herself enough to speak.*

Hey Nikki. Thanks...

[bahaha Remikins you're so cute. Imma write you a letter in the letter thread in a sec!]

*She sniffles and thinks she likes that saying, and finally calms down*

Thanks again. I'm just a bit all over the place right now. I think I'm coming down with something, and on top of that I'm just dealing with a letter from my parents that really upset me.

"You're sick? I bet if you go to the Infirmary, you might be able to find something. or, if you are like me and hate to take potions, why not try to eat lots of vitamins and get lots of sleep? And for your parents' letter, what did they say? I am sure they know how amazing and responsible you are, so I doubt they meant to hurt you..." Nikki smiled at Mya, and conjured up a lavender scented handkerchief.

*takes the hanky gratefully and dabs at her eyes*

I just don't think I could stand the sight of the Hospital Wing right now - I'm sure it's just a stomach flu, it'll pass in a day or so. My parents just... I wrote to them to tell them about Remus, and I don't think I could've gotten a more offensive reply. Well, I suppose they could've disowned me. But they just kept harping on about how young we are and implied that we don't know what we want, or each other, and that we should just worry about studying for now. It was like they didn't even know who they were talking to!

Nikki hugged Mya again. "Maybe if you act as... not rationally, but calmly as possible in your letter, explaining everything, they will understand? I mean, imagine if you were a mom, and you get a letter out of the blue saying your kids is getting married. How would you feel? Maybe they are worried about it not lasting, and you getting hurt. Just give them an explanation of how everything happened, not the sordid details of course, but enough that they understand this is real."

*She shifts uncomfortably. That was so rational, so sensible. Why didn't she see it for herself, instead of jumping right off the deep end? She blushes a little*

Well, that would probably be more productive than the Howler I was contemplating sending, I suppose. Although a Howler would make me feel better!

Nikki smiles. "Here, I'll make you a deal. Make the angriest Howler you want, and send it to me. This way you get rid of any left over anger. Then, once all that is out, write the nice sensible letter. This way, you can do both. And if they are still being insensible to the truth, I shall go pay them a visit."

Thanks. I think I'll pass on the Howler though. Wouldn't want to damage your ears. I'll let them know if I need you to pay them a visit though!

Nikki was happy she got Mya to laugh. "I would. I am very persuasive when I want to be." She started to hum The Cell Block Tango.

Oh... I'm not feeling so great. I think I will head up to the Hospital Wing, you know...
Thanks again, Nikki, I really needed that hug!

Nikki sat there and watched Mya leave. She bit her lip, worried about her new friend. She hoped everything would turn around, that Mya would feel better, that her parents would accept her choice but something deep down nagged at her. She crossed her fingers and wished for all of this to come true.

*Narrowing her eyes, seeing the truth in Tam's statement, Hermione shoves her hand in her pocket and pulls out the crumpled paper she's still carrying around - she knows she has to answer, but she's still to emotional over the whole thing to put quill to parchment just yet. She shoves the paper under Tam's nose*

Read for yourself. Nikki had to talk me out of sending a Howler...

Dear Hermione,
We’re glad you’re well and keeping up with your studies. We’re also very glad you’ve made some new friends and met a nice boy. We expect to meet him over the summer, naturally. But sweetheart, we’re concerned about this so-called engagement. I’m sure Remus is lovely and you think you’re very much in love right now, but you’re both so young. Have you really thought it through? How well do you really know this boy? You’ve never mentioned him, you can’t have known him all that long. It takes time to get to know people properly, and this is not a decision to be taken lightly. Also, why do you not see Harry and Ron anymore? You three used to be inseparable. We do hope you’re not abandoning the people who have stood by you for years for these new friends .
Of course we will support you in your decisions and we will always love you, but we do hope you’ll consider our advice. Maybe you two should focus on your studies – your final year is a big year at any school and we know you’ll regret it if you don’t give your studies the attention they deserve.
All our love, darling. And do write home more often.
Love,
Mum and Dad
