Cissy smirked a bit, but hid it skillfully along with her desperate urge to squeal. She cleared her throat and looked at Severus once more. "Well, have you ever thought that he maybe doesn't want to just have sex with her? Trust her judgment skills, Sev; after all, she befriended you, right? Didn't you tell me you weren't very popular? She was able to see through that, shouldn't she be able to see through this boy?"

Severus refused to look at her, instead gazing intently behind her shoulder. "She didn't see through James. Not even after he left her the first time. Not even after I proved to her what he was. No, she'd rather be ignorant, she'd rather get herself fucked over. And I'm not stupid. He just wants to get in her pants, you can tell, just by looking at him. He looks like a bitch," he muttered.

"But we don't know for sure!" she said, almost exasperated. "I mean, look at... Luna Lovegood! She seems a little daft, that's true, but she's actually very sweet and smart, and she knows what she's talking about. Maybe she says all this useless information about Knargles or something, but she is really helpful when she needs to be. And you! When I first met you, I thought you were some sort of... mopey, emotional, kind of mean alcoholic. And now I've learned you have much more depth to that, and what you see when you meet a person once, even twice... First impressions aren't everything. How many times have you made a bad first impression, but you grow close to that person?" she sighed. "Basically, what I'm trying to get at is that... You can't judge a book by its cover. I think you know that best of all, right?" she smiled softly. "And just because he looks like some... skirt-chasing jock doesn't make him one!"

This was not what Severus wanted to hear. What he wanted to hear was that Viktor was a slimy git who he shoul go punch out. But something Narcissa said at least provided him with an idea. "... I need a drink," he mumbled, staring at his feet.

Narcissa looked at him sternly, her tone suddenly colder. "Severus, don't drink." she said. "As far as I know, the last time you were drunk didn't end well... For either of us." she shrugged. "But, I could be wrong. Maybe it was just a one time thing, right?" she laughed, a bit hollow sounding. Her smile fell and she turned serious. "Honestly, drowning your sorrows in a drink won't solve a thing... What do you want me to tell you? The truth? Do you want me to lie and say everything will be okay? I'm just trying to be realistic..." she frowned. "Want me to punch him? Honestly, I will. I'm not a fan of violence, but if it makes you happy, I'll do whatever."

[That sounds so creepy. Way to have a Severus complex, Cissy.]

Severus glared at her. "And who the fuck are you to tell me whether I should or shouldn't drink?" he snapped again, glaring, and then sighing. "Doesn't matter. I don't have anything left to drink, anyway, and I don't know where Pansy is. No, I don't want you to punch him, I want to hex him until he resembles a flobberworm," he continued, pursing his lips and generally looking bitter and angry.

Narcissa bit her lip and cast her eyes downward. "I wish that I could help more than just telling you to stay close to her," she said, twiddling her thumbs. "but I don't think there's much else you can do other than being there to catch her when she falls and comfort her. Unless you want to resort to foul play, or upset her by arguing with her and saying that she's wrong in seeing this man..." she met his eyes. "There honestly isn't a single solution I can think of."

She smiled. "Hey, don't be sorry for being upset! It's my fault, really, I mean... I really wish I could help everyone, but I give shitty advice." she hugged him briefly. "You're alright, Severus," she said as she let him go. "And even if she doesn't see it right now, I hope she will soon."

Severus nodded, secretly glad she'd pried her way in to speak to him. "Thanks," he whispered. He felt his eyes welling with tears, but there was no way he'd cry in front of her. He stood up abruptly. "I.. I need.. get out... yeah," he mumbled, leaving the room.
