Pansy stormed up the stairs of the tower, the burning in her legs from so many steps a welcome distraction. She stepped out into the chilly night air, staring up at the stars that were blurred by the tears in her eyes. She sat down and leaned against a wall, wrapping her arms around her knees and burying her face. This seemed like the only place she could bet on being alone. No one could ever see her cry, but she couldn't make the tears stop. It just wasn't fair.
How could he be so cold, uncaring? Had he really been lying to her all along? Of course he couldn't change, why would he bother to do that when he's been perfectly happy before now doing whatever he liked, whenever he liked, which apparently included Hermione Granger. Her shoulders shook with tears and she cursed herself for having hope. Stupid hope.

It was cold, but she didn't care. The numbness of her fingers didn't bother her, nor did the way the wind pulled at her hair. She sat there as still as she could, curled up from the world until she finally fell asleep, her dreams the only place she could be safe.
