Justin noticed the girl pass by and heard her comment about his humming. "Well, my sisters like it, but they were six and four last time I sang to them, so that might have to do with," he said. The girl looked unfamiliar to Justin. He flashed her a charming smile and extended his arm toward her. "I don't believe we've met before. I'm Justin Finch-Fletchley. What's your name?"

Parvati smiled at him softly as he said that he sang to his sisters. "That's sweet that you used to sing to them, I haven't met a lot of guys who sing in this school. Only a few." She told him, feeling comfortable about him just from knowing that they had singing in common. "I don't think so." She replied when he said that they hadn't met before. "I'm Parvati, Parvati Patil." She said, taking his hand in hers gently.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Pavarti," Justin said. "I used to sing acapella at my school before Hogwarts - I'm Muggleborn, so I went to a Muggle private school. I wish Hogwarts had a singing group; they are always so beautiful." He smiled at Pavarti. "Your name is beautiful. What's its origin?"

"Really? Thats so cool!" She said, smiling widely. "I love singing, though I don't normally sing in front of people. You've got to be very special if you are going to get to hear my sing." She told him with a light laugh. "Really?" She asked as he told her her name was beautiful. "Wow, I've never had someone tell me that before, thank you." She said, a small smile still spread across her lips. "It's Hindu, actually. It's the name of a Hindu goddess and it translates to 'She of the mountains.'" She told him.

"That's very beautiful; I love the meaning," Justin said; names had always interested him. His father had begun to research their family origins over the years. "I'm sure that you're a wonderful singer. Most people are, with a little training and practice. I'm sure that those special to you love it; I'd imagine your boyfriend would like it." Justin didn't know if Pavarti had a boyfriend, but he did notice a ring on her finger and assumed that someone special had to have given it to her.

"Thanks," She said with a wide smile. "I don't know." She said, shaking her head slightly. "I don't really sing for many people close to me, only a few so not many people have the chance to love it." She told him and cocked her head slightly to the side as he said her boyfriend would like it. "My boyfriend?" She asked curiously. "How did you know I have a boyfriend?" She asked him curiously. She didn't think people talked about her or James around the school so she was interested to know how he knew. Maybe she was just easy to read.

"Just a guess based on your finger. That kind of gift tends to come from a significant other," Justin said. "I tend to notice little things like that; I'd be a Ravenclaw if book learning wasn't so boring to me." He hoped that Pavarti wasn't creeped out by him; he just tended to be observant about things, that was all.

Parvati glanced down at the ring on her left hand and then smiled at him. "Huh, wow." She said, slightly in shock that he had noticed it. "You're very observant, Justin." She said with a small smile. "People normally don't notice things like that unless it's like their best friend or something." She told him. "Book learning, oh my god, it's the worst." She said with a light laugh.

"I know. I do fairly well in my classes, but I dreaded OWLs and I am not looking forward to NEWTs. I just notice things because that's how I've always been; I have sisters, so I always try to keep an eye on them," Justin said.

"Same here! I hate taking tests! They always seem so pointless to me! I mean like if you are passing the class then you obviously know all your stuff so why bother taking this huge test like just to make sure, you know?" She said with a small shrug. "That's sweet, that you keep an eye on your sisters and stuff." She said with a soft smile.

"It's a big brother thing; I tend to be very overprotective, but then, any good brother is," Justin said. "Do you have any siblings? Any scary older brothers?" Justin hoped she didn't, for her boyfriend's sake; older brothers tended to kill relationships and the prospective boyfriends. Not that he had any experience...yet.

Parvati thought for a moment. "Kind of." She told him. "Do you know Ted Tonks? Well he is kind of like an older brother to me. I've known him since like day one and we became best friends and not he is just sort of like an older brother. Thankfully he hasn't met James yet though." She said with a light laugh. "I'm not ready to have Ted meet him, he might scare him off!"

"I know Ted, but not well though. We're both Hufflepuff, so we see each other around the common room and stuff. I know and my friend Arthur are pretty close," Justin said, remembering Arthur's questions about footieball and excitement over Ted's help with his date (and yes, these conversations took place in Teresa's head). "I don't know how intimidating Ted would be; as long this James is a decent guy, I'm sure Ted would approve."

"Yeah, I've talked to Ted about him and I am sure Ted would approve." She said with a small smile, also Nev says it is completely normal to have conversations like that in your head. If it's not then I don't want to be normal. "And if Ted doesn't approve of him and says or does anything to scare James off then I will kill him." She said with a shrug as if it was no big deal. "He is such a decent guy, more than decent. He's perfect."

"That's good," Justin said. He wasn't sure that perfection in a mate would ever exist for most people, but he was glad that Parvati seemed to have found it. "What things do you do outside of class?" he asked.

Parvati grinned widely as he asked what she does outside of class. "I'm a cheerleader!" She told him with a wide grin. "I'm the head cheerleader and captain for the Gryffindor team! I plan on being a cheerleader after school too!"

"That's exciting," Justin said. "Do you cheer at the Quidditch matches? And would you cheer professionally at the League matches?" He was never sure about the customs of Quidditch, and it was interesting for him to see how Muggle and Wizard sporting customs were connected. He wondered if Muggle cheerleaders or Wizarding ones came first.

"Yes! Every Quidditch match we cheer!" She said with a wide grin. "It's so much fun getting the crowd all pumped up and everything!" She told him. "I actually already kind of got a job cheering for a professional league team. I got an offer to cheer for the National England Quidditch Team over the summer to see how I like it and then if I like doing it then they want me to cheer for them after I graduate."

"That's exciting," Justin said. "I applied for several Ministry internships this summers. I really want the one with the Department for Experimental Charms and Objects, but I'd also be willing to be a Guide Wizard this summer." Justin would be happy with his summer internship, as long as he didn't end up in Magical Law Enforcement; rumor was that it was simply boring, monotonous desk work, and he wanted to actually use magic in his job.

Parvati nodded slowly. "That's cool! I'm sure you will get one! You seem like a pretty smart guy." She told him. "And rather charming too," She told him and then bit her lip. "I don't mean that in like a flirtatious way by the way." She added. "I just mean that like a lot of people will probably be interested in hiring you."

"I didn't think you did, with your perfect boyfriend and all. Plus, I have my own...special lady," Justin said, unsure of what he should call Audrey yet. "And I am hoping they hire me. I should hopefully be hearing back any day now. That what I thought my mail was at first," he said, holding up the letter from his sister. "But this is just as good. Even better, actually; I worry about my family, especially because they're...you know...not magical."

"Phew, good." She said with a light laugh. "Oh yeah you have a thing with Audrey, don't you?" She asked curiously. Parvati knew get gossip well. "Yeah, that's totally understandable." She told him with a small smile. "If my parents were muggles I am sure I would be worrying about them like all the time. It's totally normal!"

Justin smiled, happy to hear that other people knew about him and Audrey. "Audrey's an amazing girl - not that you aren't, of course. Hogwarts is fortunate enough to be home to the most amazing and beautiful women in the world. I'm not too worried about my family...just with people like Death Eaters and all, you can never be sure."

"Oh I know I'm amazing." She told him with a smile. "James tell's me a lot." She said with a small nod, thinking bad to their time in the Room of Requirements when he told her she was perfect and amazing about a hundred times without the same few minutes. Justin probably didn't want to know about that though. "But thank you." She said with a smile. "Yeah, I'm sure they'll be fine." She said with a small nod. "You the only wizard in your family?"

"Yeah," Justin said. "We tried to look back on our family history, see if there was any indication of magic, but we didn't find anything. I've always wondered how you end up with a Muggle-born witch or wizard or a Squib; it's genetics, but who actually determines it?" Justin thought quietly; he'd always been a bit of a philosopher, dabbling in every different group's beliefs and ideas, never finding one that fully pleased him or that he fully agreed with.
