Pansy felt like she was being followed, but brushed it off momentarily as charms put on the maze to make it seem a bit more exciting than wandering randomly until you'd manage to come out on the other side. She took a few turns at random, and all seemed to be going pretty well, until finally one of them brought her to a dead end. She looked at it a moment, making sure it really was a dead end and not a trick door or hidden path or something, before she finally stepped backwards and turned quickly to head another way.

As Pansy spun around Draco was a little too close and, to stop them both from falling, he grabbed her and wrapped his arms around here. "Where are you off to in such a rush?" He knew that the way he had her right now she couldn't move her arms, which was very lucky for his face, and he had her close enough that she couldn't knee the family jewels. Right now he was safe. Phew.

Pansy gasped as she ran into someone, now understanding why she'd felt followed. "Oh, sor-" She stopped as she realized it was Draco and his arms were wrapped around her. She didn't answer his question right off, just looking at him and trying to shrug his arms off her. "Just going through a maze, minding my own business. Maybe you should do the same." She stopped moving as she crossed her arms between them, secretly thinking that his arms were very nice and warm around her, but pushing that thought away quickly as she just wished he'd let her go.

Draco smirked down at her as she crossed her arms, finally she couldn't walk away from him. Keeping his arms firmly around her he glanced around to make sure that they were alone. "I actually have some things I want to talk to you about." When she opened her mouth to reply he re-thought what he had said. "Actually I have some things I want you to listen to." That was more like it, she wasn't going to get a say in any of this quite yet.

Pansy rolled her eyes when he smirked at her, that old familiar expression making her feel... well honestly she has no idea how it made her feel. So many emotions rolled up into one were essentially indistinguishable. She started to speak up and tell him that they had talked plenty already, but she shut her mouth again as he said he wanted her to listen. She reached up and jerked the cat ears out of her hair, as they suddenly felt really stupid, though she wasn't sure why she cared about looking stupid in front of Draco anyway. As much as she'd been working on hating him, and succeeding at it pretty often, she still honestly cared for him much more than she cared to admit. The least she could do was hear him out once more. Maybe he'd actually say something of worth this time. "Fine. I'm listening."

Draco took a deep breath, here goes nothing. "I've thought a lot about what you said last time and I think that in many ways you are right but at the same time you are completely and utterly wrong. You said I can't have everything but that's exactly what you're doing. You are perfecting your own little world where you cut out everything that seems wrong to you so that you can have all that you want lined up in a neat little row just waiting for your approval but I know that you know better than that, or at least you used to. You can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need and we need each other Pansy. I know that we've been fighting recently but you and I both know it's this situation driving us crazy, putting us on edge and we are the only people we can talk about it with so it's only natural that it turns into fights. That doesn't mean that we can't make things right ever again. What use will it do either of us to spend the rest of our lives fighting or separate? I would rather have you in my life, even if we do explode occasionally, than not have you at all." He stopped talking and looked down at her, the whisker lines on her cheeks and the smudge of black on her nose.

Pansy looked at him but kept quiet and let him finish. She was silent after he stopped talking, just looking at him and trying to process what he said. Hypocrite? Was she... was she really doing exactly what she was lecturing him for doing? The more she thought about it, the more she realized he was sort of right. She told him he couldn't have everything, he couldn't have her and the Death Eater life, that they couldn't be friends if he intended to live the way his father wanted him to. And yet she wanted to keep him as a friend and to keep him out of the dark arts, and to have things go her way. He was right, but she wouldn't admit it. She wanted to get what she wanted, but what was it that she needed? "Draco, you say we need each other. You might need me, but how do you know if I need you? What if I don't need you?" She knew it was a lie. She knew she needed him. But why? Absolutely no idea. She didn't move for a moment, just looking at him wondering if he was right and if it was even worth trying to be friends again. She still couldn't look at him without remembering their fights. But at the way he was looking at her from what she'd told him, she couldn't just stand there. She rested her forehead against his chest, not wanting to look at his eyes anymore, not sure what else to say. She whimpered softly without realizing it, wishing life wasn't this hard for someone only sixteen years old.

Draco was shocked when she spoke up and he was sure she could see the hurt in his eyes no matter how hard he tried to hide it. When she leaned against him his arms tightened around her, pulling her closer so that he could rest his chin on her head. When she whined softly he sighed and finally moved on arm, his hand smoothing over her hair which she had left loose and wavy that night. "But we do need each other, I can't explain it but we do." He didn't have words to describe it but he thought it was like a clownfish and an anemone, the clownfish looks after the anemone and makes sure it gets enough food and stays healthy and the anemone provides shelter for the clownfish and gives it a place where no attackers can hurt it. Pansy was the anemone to Draco's clownfish and there was no way that one could live without the other, there were some bonds that couldn't be broken.

If Pansy knew he was comparing them to a fish and an anemone, she probably would have laughed and wandered away from him right there. Maybe. Nah, probably not. She shut her eyes when his hand brushed over her hair, but she leaned back to look at him when he said they needed each other. "Draco, need or not, what the hell do we do? We can't even talk about it without fighting and I refuse to live like that no matter how much I may or may not miss having you around. I can't fight with you like we do, Draco." She tried to pull out of his arms, but he'd gotten them pretty tightly around her. She reached up and grabbed onto his arms, trying to get him to let go of her. "I can't..." She'd looked down, shaking her head and attempting to move away.

Draco held her close but the second time she tried to pull away he stumbled slightly but held on to her. "I don't know what the hell we're supposed to do but all I know is that as long as we avoid each other all we are ever going to do is fight about this. All I can think about is that weekend at your home, how happy we were, you can't tell me that you think we'll never be that way again." He wasn't sure if she was leaning against him or if he was leaning on her, phycially or mentally, but he knew that with every action there was an equal and opposite reaction which is, come to think of it, probably what makes hate sex so good. "If we don't try we'll never work this out and I know we'll have fights but I want to be able to talk to you about them afterwards and try to make it up without having to wait a week and without having to ambush you in some lame corn maze to get you to listen."

Wow, Cat is such a nerd I cannot take this. Pansy kept trying to move his arms from her, but he wouldn't budge. "Draco..." She didn't know what to say, thinking about her house again. "Draco, as nice as that weekend was, what even was it? I mean, you're still with Astoria for crying out loud, but where the hell has she been when you needed someone? I just... I can't feel like this secondary person you go to when you need someone. As great of friends as we've been I can't just be here when you need me and disappear when it's not convenient anymore. I want this to work I just don't know how it will. We fight so much and we can't even control our own tempers when it comes down to it, and what kind of life is that?" Pansy wasn't crying. Pansy wouldn't let herself cry. But she had to blink a few times to keep the moisture inside, to make it go away.

You love my sexy nerdy self and you know it. Draco shook his head when she mentioned Astoria but let her finish her little piece first because he's nice like that sometimes. "I don't want to disappear from your life but sometimes I worry and I think that you might be safer without me around but then I wonder if you are safer with me and everything I think about that involves you just runs in circles and never truly gets resolved because I never know where we stand. And I would say that right now we are doing a rather fine job of controlling our tempers, don't you think?" His hand on her upper back pressed down slightly so that she couldn't see his face when he spoke the next words, "I broke up with Astoria too, I couldn't be with her anymore because she's not you."

Pansy listened to him but she couldn't take what he said perfectly seriously. She'd opened her mouth to say something about it, but he pulled her to him again and she could only rest her head on his chest as he talked. And then she sort of stopped breathing a little bit. "Wait, what?" She leaned back again to look at him, completely confused. "The disappearing thing always seemed like it was because you didn't want to be seen hanging out with me as more than just your friend Pansy, just saying hi between classes or sitting in the common room at the same time and reading or something. Anything more than that like we could do at home or when we were alone, you never let happen. And now you're saying it's to protect me? But that makes no sense. Don't say that was why you wouldn't, because it was like that before this whole Death Eater mess. And then you throw this shit about Astoria and her being not me, and I don't get it." She stared at him, intending completely to get a straight answer from him, but she returned to her efforts of getting out of his grip, pushing his arms off her.

He sighed and really wished he could sit down right now but if he sat down she would be able to work her way free and he didn't want that. "I mean it used to be because of that but more recently I've stopped caring about that, I don't know why and I can't explain it but I find myself wanting to spend more and more time with you to the point where I wonder what you would say about everything but at the same time another part of me fights that and reminds me that I can't have a weakness and that you are a weakness because if something happened to you it would hurt me more than anything else and I realized that when I was with Astoria I didn't feel anything even remotely like that and I honestly really didn't care what became of her so I really don't understand this any better than you do and unfortunately you are the only person I can talk to about things like this but this wasn't something I wanted to talk to you about and we hadn't been talking anyway so all that's happened is that this has built itself into a knot in my head that I can't untangle." And then it hit Draco like the freight train in that new Chris Pine movie. He loved her. Shit.

Pansy could only stare at him and try to keep up with what he was saying and try to understand his many many very fast words. She opened her mouth to speak, and closed it again, open, closed, over and over trying to figure out what to say. Finally she just closed her mouth and looked at him, because she honestly had no words for that. No words to respond to the fact that she was a weakness to him or that he didn't care about Astoria because she wasn't her or that he wanted to spend more time with her and could only talk to her about these things. As happy as it sort of made her to know all that, it entirely freaked her out. She'd just spent the past few weeks making herself hate him, and here he was holding her and she was falling right back into it. No. No, no, no. She grabbed onto his arms again, pushing him away from her and trying to slide out of his grip. She took a step or two backwards, shaking her head and trying to escape his arms.

When she tried to pull back from him again Draco started to rethink saying all of that. What if now, instead of realizing how serious he was about her and how deeply he felt she just wanted to get away from him and thought that he was still spewing bullshit at her. He was about to try to explain just that to her when she pulled again and, in his weakened and unfocused state, he fell against her, knocking them both into the corner of the maze. Well wasn't this familiar, his hands had moved to catch them both so one was wrapped around her shoulders and the other was holding onto the stalks next to her head. The two of them were still close together and Draco blinked, trying to re-stablize himself.

When she tried to pull back from him again Draco started to rethink saying all of that. What if now, instead of realizing how serious he was about her and how deeply he felt she just wanted to get away from him and thought that he was still spewing bullshit at her. Severus had followed after Draco, pulling his ragged and patched coat around his shoulders, because I don't know about you guys, but it's fucking freezing up in Jersey. Wand out, he wandered around, following the sound of their voices until he finally found-- "Draco! What the-- let go of her," he said in a rather scared and timid voice, given that he hardly ever stood up for himself, much less anyone else, but it wasn't as if he was going to do nothing, if he was hurting Pansy.

Pansy staggered backwards, trying to stay on her feet as well as keep Draco on his. She made a mental note to be sure he actually ate and slept, because apparently he's gotten worse about that than she's ever been. "Draco, you've got to let go of me or we're going to both end up falling over." She tried to twist away from him, but with one of his arms around her shoulders and the other holding onto the plants behind her head, he was sort of looming over her and she had nowhere to go. And then someone else was there telling him to let go. Sev? Had he followed her here? She tried again to move Draco's arm from around her, as quickly as she could because she knew what it looked like. She knew it looked like Draco had pinned her in a moment of rage again, as if he were about to shout at her or hit her or something again. It was just unfortunate that the time he was actually being civil, someone had wandered in before anything happened. She whispered to him frantically, prying his hand from her back. "Let go, Draco."

It's even more freezing in Schenectady. NBD. And Draco is wearing a coat unlike Pansy who just enjoys getting sick so she can beat people up. Draco felt Pansy shifting and took a moment to gather himself and his thoughts but that was a moment too long. He heard Snape and then Pansy's panicked whisper and tried to push himself off the maze but slipped slightly and grabbed Pansy's other shoulder for support. He knew this look bad and that there was no way he was going to explain to Snape what had just happened between them. Finally standing up properly he turned to face the grease-ball. He didn't know what to say so, with a quick glance back at Pansy he walked past Snape and started winding his way out of the maze. Why did Snape have to butt in at that moment? It wasn't what it looked like and for once Draco was not doing anything wrong as far as Pansy was concerned. As he left the maze he decided that while Snape was in the maze with Pansy and everyone else was at the party he could get back into the common room and his dorm without anyone seeing. Walking past the Great Hall with the music blaring he headed straight into the dungeons and up to his room, closing the curtains around himself.
