"Oh, sorry." Remus quaffled even more and wondered if he should have just gone with his first plan - leaving. He was no good with this whole talking to girls thing, the exceptions being Lily and Molly. "Remus Lupin. And no...I didn't really want anything. I'm just wandering about and I seemed to end up back here, er, miss." Ugh, he was so awkward. This girl was going to go off and laugh about him to all her girl friends and then he'd have to deal with more stares than he already got. Which was kind of a bit considering people usually did a double take or so when they first saw the scars on his face. He was pretty used to it by now but that didn't mean he enjoyed it any, of course.

Hermione is so taken with Remus' eyes that she has yet to even notice his scars. It's going to be quite the surprise to her if someone ever points them out to her. She blushes, feeling awkward at having made him apologise. Merlin, no wonder Viktor left; Hermione can't even carry on a simple conversation without making some sort of blunder. "No, I'm sorry. That was really rude of me. Hermione Granger," she says, and attempts to make up for earlier rudeness with a shy smile and an extended hand to offer a handshake.

Remus had looked up at one point and couldn't figure out why it seemed like this Hermione girl couldn't stop looking into his eyes. So of course he awkwardly looks away again, not looking up as he takes her extended hand to shake quickly before dropping it again and letting his hand hang at his side, his other one in his pocket. "No need to apologize, I should have told you my name sooner so you wouldn't have to go to the trouble of asking. So I'm sorry." He'd keep apologizing anyway because that's just how he was...along with being uncomfortable around girls and why was this even harder than usual? "Er...did you find anything interesting in this aisle? Cause I can't really seem to find anything to read...well, I mean, we're in a library so of course there's tons of things to read, but, I mean...oh bugger, I'm rambling again, so sorry." his face was probably close to melting point it was burning up so bad, not to mention probably another new shade of quaffle.

Hermione feels the warm hand close around her own all-too briefly before it slips away again, leaving her strangely empty. "You apologize an awful lot," she remarks, and it's not until after she's spoken that she realizes the classy thing to do would've been to not draw attention to it. "There's really no need, honestly," she hastens to add. Her eyes fly back to the shelves. "Erm..." she bypasses the book she'd unwittingly grabbed earlier. "Oh, this one is alright. I've read it twice, though," she says, plucking Advanced Defensive Magic from the shelves and offering it to him.

Remus quaffles (okay, I'm seriously dying over the fact that we turned that into a verb. every time I write it I giggle) and looks down at the floor awkwardly. "Er, sorry. Oops, I said it again. Sorry, so sorry. I can't help it, I'm always apologizing." he actually facepalmed. He looks up when she mentions a book title and offers it to him. Taking it he smiles slightly and nods, still unable to look her in the eyes though. "I've read this once. It's pretty good. I think I'll read it again though." He was much more comfortable when it came to talking about books, even if he still couldn't look at the person he was talking to and also couldn't stop wondering why looking at Hermione earlier had caused that particular reaction in him.

Hermione jumps slightly as Remus facepalms, her hand reaching out for half a second to pull his hand away but changing course when he reaches for the book, blushing a little herself. "It's really no problem," she assures him. "Oh, you've read it? I thought it was good, too. I particularly enjoyed the chapter which completely debunked Slinkhard's foolish theory about the naming of counter-curses, hexes and jinkses." She realises then that she's completely nerding out and flushes slightly. She had forgotten she wasn't talking to someone like Angelina or Audrey, who understands her bookishness and has forgiven her already.

"Okay, and I thought I was one of the only people around here that totally started nerding out when it came to talking about books and then forgetting about the fact that the other person was probably halfway in daydreamland within a second or two." Remus actually laughed, his eyes shining brightly because, even though he was uncomfortable around girls, he really did enjoy meeting someone else who liked books as much as he did. After he stopped laughing, he smiled shyly then ended up looking down at the floor again awkwardly, not sure what to say now.

[Amethyst is amused and hugging her Rem tightly because she's missed his adorable shyness. Aaaand now she's shoving chocolate in his face and telling him to eat it or else, because it's sad when he doesn't feel like eating chocolate.]

Hermione laughs too, although she stops before Remus, her breath catching slightly in her throat at the way his eyes glow with mirth when he laughs. She starts to feel warm and she looks away hastily, eyes cast shyly downwards. "Most people I know tend to just nod absently and agree with me whenever I stop for air once I get started talking about books," she admits.

"I know what that's like." Remus nods in understanding. "I come here whenever I need to get away from my friends for a bit just because I know they'd never step foot in here unless they got desperate. I've probably spent more time in the library while here at Hogwarts than class...well, I mean, I go to my classes of course, just...during free time and, well, any chance I get I spend it in here." More so lately than usual it seemed as well. He reddened at having talked so much and looked down awkwardly.

"I know what you mean," Hermione assures Remus with a little smile. "There's always something to lose yourself in here. Always a distraction," she says, not really realising how that sounds. It's just easy for her not to be on her guard around this person; there's something about him that just suggests that he's on her wavelength.

Remus nods in agreement but gives her a slightly confused, yet concerned, look when she mentions distractions. "Something wrong?" he asked. Then he quaffled yet again and looked back down. "Er, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. I just sort of understand what you mean cause that's sort of what I'm looking for as well right now. Uh, a distraction, I mean." Yay, here he was trying to actually have a conversation with a girl and he wasn't doing such a great job at it.

Hermione blushes. "I didn't mean to say that," she whispers. "Erm, I guess you could say I don't seem to be able to get along well with other people. It's easier to stick to books," she says, conjuring a brief smile.

"Hmm..." Remus frowns slightly, still looking down at the floor. "It is easier to stick to books sometimes, isn't?" He looked up and scanned the shelves quickly before pulling a book out and handing it out to Hermione. It was a more historical based text about defensive magic. It'd been pretty good if Remus remembered correctly. He didn't really know what type of things the girl liked to read but she seemed like she'd read about anything, like Remus...well, except for Dickens. Remus can't stand Dickens. Those books, if family would forget and get him some anyway, would always end up on the back of his shelves or in a box. Never in the trash. Remus couldn't bare to see a book in the trash or damaged in any way. "You're getting along with me." he comments quietly, unable to make eye contact. It was hard to make eye contact with people. Though he really wished it wasn't.

"Some books are like old friends," Hermione confesses, blushing brightly. Way to go, Granger, just go ahead and admit to random strangers with amazing eyes that you get along really well with things that don't have to actually interact with you. Hermione wants to tell Remus that the only reason she's getting along with him is that it's only when people get to know her that she manages to hurt them, but she holds her tongue and takes the offered book with a grateful smile. "You seem impossible not to get along with," she tells Remus, because she can't imagine anyone not liking him. She glances down at the book, skimming the blurb with rapidity. "This looks like a really good text. Thank you."

"I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that." he admits, smiling a bit. "Usually I don't admit things like that because my friend Sirius calls me girly." his face fell slightly at the mention of Sirius but he continued on, hoping she wouldn't notice. "Oh, and I don't think everyone would agree with you on that...there are quite a few people I don't get along with." Namely, all the people who bear an extreme dislike towards werewolves and would rather see him locked up or something. Remus smiles dryly and shrugs. "It happens. We can't get along with everyone now, can we? Oh...you're welcome. I've read that one before and it was interesting."

Hermione laughs quietly at the concept of Remus being made fun of for being too girly, when similar behaviour in herself gains the opposite result. "My friend Audrey often gets impatient with me for not being girly enough," she explains. She watches a shadow fall briefly across his face and frowns, her hand brushing his lightly for a half second. She's not really sure why, she just doesn't like seeing people sad. "I suppose you're right. Can't have everything."

Remus jumps slightly when he feels her hand brush his. It was only a brief moment but it was enough to make his skin tingle oddly and he's not entirely sure if he liked the feeling or not. And now he really hoped she hadn't seen him jump. "Er, not girly enough? You seem girly to me, well, I mean, you're a girl...and a pretty one at that, so that's being girly right? Or did I just offend you? Oh bugger, I have no idea what I'm talking about. Honestly I don't know how to talk to girls very well besides my friends Lily and Molly so please forgive me, I'm sorry, I'm going to shut up now." His face was probably going to explode any second now and she probably thought he was rather weird.

Hermione opens and closes her mouth a few times, scrambling for something to say to all that ramble. "You just said I was pretty," she blurts. Then she flushes. "Erm, no, not offended. Confused, perhaps. But most definitely not offended." She pauses again, figuring that would be a nice, non-painful place to pause before either of them could possibly be more embarrassed. But then she finds more words coming without her permission. "You don't seem to have any trouble talking to me, and I'm a girl. Except of course you keep saying you're going to shut up, which isn't really conducive to conversation you know and oh goodness, now I'm being rude. Sorry."

"Ah..and now I confused you." Remus sighed, quite quaffley. "So sorry. And..er, it's easier to talk to someone when the conversation is about books. Oh, not that I wouldn't want to talk to you about anything else." he added quickly, "I'm just saying it's easier when there's books involved. And I only say I'm going to shut up because I keep rambling which is very awkward and I'm sure rather annoying....and you're not being rude at all, honest."

Hermione blushes again, amazed at this special power she has of being able to want people to shut up and go away by only the force of her personality. "Suffice it to say neither of us seems to be very good at socializing, but we both like talking about books. Hmm, maybe we have more in common than we realize," she says, then adds silently 'except you don't seem like the type of person who goes around repaying people's love by breaking their hearts'.

"Maybe we do." Remus smiles lightly and nods. "That'll give us plenty more to talk about when we run out of things to talk about about books...except I don't think that'll happen." he chuckled, figuring if she really loved books as much as he did then they'd have plenty to talk about for hours. "Not that I wouldn't want to hear more about you, because I do like making friends, no matter how bad at it I am, and you are rather interesting, er," he reddened, "well, you know, interesting, like, I'd like to get to know you more and be friends, and now I'm rambling again and I'm= not going to shut up because you said not to, except I'm going to stop talking for a moment now."

"Until I've read every book in the world and discussed it at least twice, I don't think I'll ever run out of things to say about books," Hermione says earnestly. "And don't worry, there's not all that much to know about me. I'm a sixth year, I'm in Gryffindor, I'm Muggleborn ~~and I used to be a lesbian for a while~~," she shrugs. "And I'm an only child. That's about it." She pauses and looks down, then back up. "Oh, and I'd like to be friends."
