Re: The Fireplace
Pansy Parkinson wrote:Pansy blinked at him before tossing her book aside and jumping up out of the chair. "You, wh- " She crossed the room in a few long steps, "What did you -" and her fingers clutched onto the fabric of the sleeves of his jacket. She was unable to form a coherent sentence, in disbelief at what she thought she'd just heard come out of his mouth. Her eyes darted back and forth for a moment, trying to sort it out in her head as she stared at his coat and soaking shirt. She glanced up into his eyes, finally gathering herself enough to speak. "Why... why would you-?" Her voice shook more than it normally would, and her fingers trembled on his sleeves. She was beyond confused.
"Because - " Draco sighed, taking her hands into his and away from his sleeves. He pulled her to him and left her hands on his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. He didn't care that they were just friends at this point, it didn't mean anything to him anymore, "Because I hurt you too much and I couldn't live with it. I didn't want to live with it. Everything I've done to you is shameful. I wanted you to move on and find someone who wasn't me. Who wouldn't do these things that I do to you," He knew he was probably drenching her by holding her, but he refused to let go. He closed his eyes, "I thought you would be able to live happier with me gone. I thought everyone would be able to live happier with me gone," He shuddered, hoping she wouldn't think any less of him, "I, honest to God, couldn't see how you would love someone like me after all the shit I've done to you. I wouldn't stand for it. I need you to be happy and all I do is make you unhappy. I want better for you...You deserve all the things I can't give you..."

Re: The Fireplace
[Tam... are you crying, and thinking "From the moment you were born, has there ever been a point where you actually told the truth?" Because I definitely am. well, not crying, but hearing L say that.]

[oh god... now I'm very close to tears...]
Re: The Fireplace
Pansy got cold chills as he wrapped his arms around her, but she blamed it on his cold, wet clothes. He talked on, and she knew her eyes were growing wet. She hid her face in his chest so he wouldn't see, letting him finish talking without interruption. "Draco, stop it." She looked up at him again, having cleared the tears from her eyes. Mostly, anyway. "I could never be happy with you gone. If all this shit has taught me anything, anything at all, it's that I'm nothing when you're not with me. I can't pretend anymore. Last week, I couldn't get you out of my thoughts no matter how I tried, and as much as I wanted to hate you, I just... couldn't," she was shaking her head, trying to keep the tears at bay a while longer. "As long as I live, I'll never love someone like I've loved you. I don't want any better. You're all I've ever wanted, don't you understand? There is nothing you can do to make me stop loving you." It was too soon, all of it. Pansy knew this. She knew she'd promised herself that she was going to keep back, stay friends, take it slow again because of all the stuff that happened before. But it didn't matter now, and she didn't give a damn. It had to be said, now or never, because in this moment, she realized how fragile their lives really were. Tomorrow wasn't promised. Now was all they had.

[Okay, I'm legitimately tearing up. Between reading this and rewatching ep. 25, I'm seriously depressed.]

Re: The Fireplace
Draco gazed down at her, stunned. He hadn't expected this after what had occurred in the dungeons. He saw the tears in her eyes and wanted them to stop because he had hoped he wasn't hurting her again. He prayed he wasn't hurting her again, "I understand..." He held her tight to him. He understood even if he didn't want to understand, even if he hadn't wanted to believe it before, "I haven't been able to get you out of my thoughts since I met you. That sounds odd... after the things I've said and done to you in the past. I was a stupid kid. I've always been a stupid kid..." He stroked her hair. He wanted to comfort her in any way possible, he wanted to stop the hurt that binded them together. He listened to her speak, not wanting to interrupt her and say something idiotic. Her voice soothed him and he stopped shivering despite the cold, soaked clothes that stuck to his skin. He kissed her on top of her head as his heart began to pound slow and hard, he could hear it in his ears. He whispered, without knowing, "You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that. I have loved you more than anyone I have ever known," He felt a lump grow in his throat, "You're the only person I've ever wanted to die for. Pansy, I never meant to hurt you any of those times. I never actually wanted any of it. I was afraid. I've never been one to love anyone or anything before. When I felt this way about you, the first time and last time I will ever feel this way about anyone, I didn't know what to do with myself. I had never felt anything like it..." His voice trailed off. He pulled back lightly and wiped the tears from her eyes, "I love you, Parkinson. Enough to jump off the highest tower and plummet to my death. You're the only thing I have worth living for."

Re: The Fireplace
Pansy half smiled at him as he wiped at tears she hadn't realized were escaping onto her cheeks. "You were a stupid kid. I'm not worth dying for." She shivered again, but it was anyone's guess as far as its cause. It would seem to be the chill of his wet clothes on her skin, which had begun to soak a little into her own clothes. But Pansy had a suspicion it had something to do with his confession of love, the second she'd gotten from him, and she desperately hoped it was one of many more. Either way, she wasn't going to stand here shivering when there was a fire crackling behind her. "It's cold." She slid her hands down from his chest and found his hands, pulling away and tugging him behind her as she headed to the fireplace. She sat down on the rug in front of the fire, glad of it's heat after his cold embrace. "Some days, I wish I could erase the past, all the hurts and fights and hard times." Pansy stared at the fire, droplets on her eyelashes catching the light. "But then I realize how much better it makes moments like this seem, thinking back to those days. You need the bad to properly enjoy the good." She turned back to him, watching his grey eyes, the same eyes she'd studied for years, that she knew better than her own. She knew how they were darker when he was angry, brilliantly silver in the sunlight. "It almost makes fighting with you worth it. And we do it so well, after all," she laughed. They'd done more than their fair share over the years. Sometimes verbal, sometimes more physical, but it was always over quickly. Pansy simply couldn't hold a grudge against him. He was her one great weakness.

Re: The Fireplace
Astoria walks downstairs...but stops, frozen in place seeing Pansy and Draco hugging. She heart gives a small jolt. He's with her..... Deep down, she knew that it would never work between her and Draco.......because there was always her. She glares at Pansy, jealous tears in her eyes as her heart breaks.... In a rush, she hurridly walks past them, and down to the lake. She needed to be alone.........

Draco chuckled quietly as she tugged him over to the fireplace. He collapsed beside her on the rug and embraced the warmth that the fire radiated. He hadn't realized how terrible his tremors had been. He hadn't thought the whole plan through, definitely not taking into account the freezing water that drenched him. He had acted on impulse and that might not have been good for their health. He thought back to the past as she spoke, not taking his eyes off of hers. He thought of the times they walked by the Gryffindor trio and would yell insults at them or sing chants that always made them squirm. He remembered scolding Pansy, like she was just a follower and meant nothing to him. The memories were sometimes good, but mostly made his insides irk. He hadn't realized how poorly he had treated her. At the time, it seemed like nothing and that it was how he was supposed to act. He had been so incredibly wrong. He was brought back to reality after a moment, the crackling of the fire the only sound left after she had finished talking. He squeezed her hand and smirked, "You're right. Those fights made us who we are... and it eventually drew us to one another. The only reason I dislike them with such a passion is because you were a good friend to me when I treated you like a minion. I don't see how you put up with it," He shrugged. He didn't care about the past much any more now. He was happy with the present, if it continued to be like this moment here and now. He mumbled to himself as she watched him, "Tell her she is all that's beautiful...." He smiled, "I'm hoping we got all that fighting out of our systems. I'd rather not fight with you, ever again," He pulled her to him and wrapped one arm around her, "Please." He ignores Astoria, because he's too involved with Pansy right now to notice anyone else.
