Hermione grins and keeps close to Viktor as they walk to the currency exchange. It's partially that she's cold, partially that she's afraid of getting lost, but mostly it's just that her best friend's presence is a comfort to her, and she likes to keep close. She takes her bank card out of her purse and hands it over, requesting the equivalent of a few hundred dollars. I dunno - does Bulgaria use Euros? Votever, she wants Bulgarian currency. "That's better," she sighs, now that she has money at her disposal. Then she pulls a bit of a face. "I hope my parents don't check my account statement - it'll be a bit of a bind, trying to explain to them how I withdrew money in Bulgaria when I was supposed to be in Scotland!"

Viktor's expression turns to shock as they leave the building, surprised that Hermione's parents don't know where she is. He had figured that she asked them, but he never really gave it much though. "They think you're back at Hogvarts for the holidays? This is as close as I've ever seen you to breaking a rule," he teases lightly, because he's not a Papa Bear like Kras is. He won't lecture Hermione on lying to her parents. Besides, she's safe with him anyway.

Hermione flushes right up to the roots of her hair. "Last time I asked if I could come, they said no. I didn't want to miss out again. Besides, Audrey knows exactly where I am, and I'm safe with you, it's not as though I've gone running off with no regard for the consequences!" she says earnestly, eager for Viktor to know she hasn't been a complete fool.

"Hm. Vell, in that case I guess I should hire an extra security guard to follow you around," he teased with a grin as he began walking down the street with Hermione. "Either vay, I'm really glad you did end up coming," he admitted, becoming serious again because he really was happy that he could finally show his best friend where he grew up and introduce her to his parents.

Hermione just smiles. "I think you're security enough for me, Viktor. Presuming you're not going to get mobbed by hordes of fans at any point," she adds cheekily, noticing that there must be a few magical people in Sofia, because every now and then somebody makes a noise of pleasant surprise when they spot Viktor, and starts talking excitedly in Bulgarian to the person next to them as he passes. Knowing that Viktor himself has never been a fan of the attention, Hermione slips an arm about his waist in a companionable, sideways hug while they walk. "Don't worry, I won't let them get you," she whispers.

Viktor smiled and wrapped an arm around Hermione's shoulder, giving her a hug back as they continued to walk. "Vell thanks. I'm glad I know that I don't have to vorry about being attacked for articles of clothing," he replied, still smiling as he removed his arm from around Hermione to take her hand instead. "So, any ideas of vare you'd like to go next or shall I choose? They really do have a store for everything in this town," he said as they slowly walked past stores of all sorts.

Hermione shrugs, dropping her arm from around Viktor's waist and allowing him to take her hand once more. Even the cold air on her cheeks isn't enough to deter her from her enjoyment - she's loving just wandering around with Viktor, taking in the sights and the smells and the sounds of another culture. "You choose - I just want to see everything all at once, and my tastes are dull anyway," she points out, because it's true. Give her a choice between something cool and a good book, and she'll take the book. Every time.

Viktor thinks otherwise. He's positive that one day he'll know of a certain activity that Hermione will choose before the book. An activity that he's rather amazing at. Mhm. "Alright then." He glanced down at her face, her cheeks red from the cold weather. "Hot chocolae or tea sound good yet? You look cold," he said with a teasing smile as he continued walking down the sidewalk, hand in hand with his best friend.

Right now, Hermione has no earthly clue what activity Viktor could possibly be referring to. She smiles at Viktor, pleased by the idea. "Hot chocolate would be lovely, I suppose you know where all the best little cafes are," she says, happy just to wander along, following her best friend's lead.

"And vot kind of tour guide vould I be if I didn't?" He smiled as he led her towards one of his favorite cafes. Not the usual one where he normally brought guys to on dates. The smaller one that he normally went to alone. "Right in here," he smiled as he used his free hand to hold the door open for Hermione. He picked out a nice table near the window where Hermione could have a nice view of the street as they waited for the waitress to come over.

It wasn't until the young waitress asked what Hermione wanted in Bulgarian that Viktor realized his other duty as translator. "Oh. Right. Hot chocolate?" he asked, wanting go make sure Hermione hadnt changed her mind before ordering. "Unless... You'd like to order," he suggests, unsure of how well his friend knew Bulgarian.

Hermione appreciates the way Viktor carefully choses a table so that she can still watch all the goings on in the street while they warm up and have their drinks, so busy looking out the window (and reminding herself it's childish to press her nose to the glass and it actually won't give her a better view anyway) that she doesn't notice the arrival of the waitress until she hears a feminine voice speaking unfamiliar words to her. She smiles in embarrassment at the girl and turns to Viktor. "Would you, please? And yes, hot chocolate," she says, falling silent and paying careful attention to the way he pronounces the words when he places her order for her.

Viktor smiles and turns to the waitress to order two hot chocolates, ignoring her wink before turning back to Hermione. "So, I'm guessing it's safe to say that you like vot you've seen of Bulgaria, so far?" he asks with a grin as the waitress walks away to go put in both their orders.

Hermione's lip twitches, she notices the girl wink at a completely unresponsive Viktor. Surprisingly, her stomach gives a white-hot jolt and Hermione reacts instinctively, not really realising what she's doing as she reaches across the table for Viktor's hand. "It's wonderful! I could stay here forever!" she declares. She loves Viktor's apartment, and she loves the city, and she loves being here with her best friend. There are no problems here, no expectations and pressures and no broken hearts. It's just Hermione and Viktor and it's glorious.

Viktor is rather surprised as Hermione's hand reaches over to hold his, but smiles and doesn't pull away at all. He beams at her thoughts of Bulgaria, extremely pleased that she wouldn't mind staying here forever. In fact, he could easily imagine living here with his best friend forever now that he thinks about it. "I'm glad you like it," he says with a genuine smile, glad to see Hermione so much happier compared to how she was last night, though he knows that it might only be temporary. "I've alvays vondered vot you vould think of Bulgaria."

Hermione just gives Viktor an affectionate look. "Viktor, Bulgaria produced my best friend. How could I be anything but in love with it on principle?" She grins at him, accepts the hot chocolate as it arrives, and falls into companionable silence, still amazed by how much she loves Bulgaria.

Viktor greams at the compliment and takes a sip of hot chocolate as he continues enjoying Hermione's company. He set his drink down and smiled happily at Hermione, still unable to believe how amazing it is to be in Bulgaria with her. "You know vot I just realized? Buying those books for you...Not my best move. I can only imagine how long it'll be before you're trying to break my arm vith those things."

Hermione gives Viktor a quizzical look over the rim of her mug, as she is in the middle of taking a sip of her drink as he speaks. Then he finishes his thought and she splutters, barely keeping her hot chocolate in her mouth as she chokes on a laugh. Hastily, she puts her mug down and dabs at her lips with a napkin, which she then throws at Viktor. "I'll have to practice that the moment you hand them over, you know!" she threatens playfully, her cheeks stained pink and her eyes sparkling. Somewhere in the back of her mind, it occurs to her that had she been with anyone else, she would've been dreadfully embarrassed over almost spraying them with her drink.

Viktor chuckles at Hermione's reaction, playfully throwing the napkin back at her as he grins. "Then maybe I von't give them to you until you're in a really good mood," he teases with a light laugh. "I probably should have gotten you von of the smaller books, now that I think of it," he adds as he strokes his goatee, failing to hide his teasing smirk as he stifles more laughter.

Hermione pulls a face at Viktor, her eyes dancing with laughter. "The smaller the book, the more times I have to whack you with it, that's all," she smirks. "And I won't be too concerned if you wait til I'm in a good mood to hand over the books - with your track record, wouldn't be too much longer before you gave me a reason to use it," she points out.

Viktor pretended to look offended. "Excuse me? You make me sound like some awful person ven you put it that vay," he said in a serious tone before laughing. "Like I said before, ven my Quidditch career is over because you've broke both my arms, then you'll feel bad for hitting me," he said with a very serious nod, indeed.

Hermione shrugs. "How do you know this isn't some great plan of mine to destroy your career so that you'll always have time for your best friend, rather than be surrounded by adoring fans all the time?" she challenges, although she's smiling because she's never been afraid of Viktor not having time for her. Even when they could only write, he always, always made sure he had the time to write her a real letter.

"Please, like I'd ever not have time for you," he said as if it was the craziest notion he'd ever heard. Which it was, actually. Even though he knew Hermione was only joking. "You act like I'm famous or something," he joked before taking the last sip of his hot chocolate and setting the cup back down in front of him. "But for the record, I know that you know I'd alvays choose you over the fans."

Hermione gives him a quizzical look. "Famous? Oh, right! For some... sport thingy, right?" She shakes her head as if to say 'whatever' and then beams at Viktor. "I know you would, Viktor. It's part of your charm." She's got a few more sips in her mug of hot chocolate still, but she finishes them off as quickly as she can and reaches for her purse. She figures the gesture might be nice, given that Viktor has paid for her books.

Viktor shrugged and smiled as if he's never thought himself of famous, which he has of course. He likes the idea of being famous for something he loves doing. It's the fangirls and fanboys he could do without. He considered stopping Hermione from reaching for her purse, but decides against it. He figured that she'd probably insist until he gave in anyway and it is only hot chocolate after all. He's so paying for lunch, so letting Hermione pay for two little drinks is fine. "You're not going to let me pay this time, are you?" he asked with a smile because his inner gentleman demands it.

Hermione smiles brightly. "No, I'm not," she says, pleased he's not fighting her on this. She pulls out her purse and rifles through the Bulgarian currency. She thinks a few moments, having taken note of the cost of the drinks on the menu, and adds it all up in her head before selecting a couple of notes. She glances to Viktor for confirmation that she's chosen the right amount before heading to the till to pay. "Can we see some of the sights now?" she asks, itching to take in something historical or cultural.
