"Pansy," he let out a long breath, "I don't want us to grow apart either. Honestly the idea of us not being friends isn't something I can even wrap my head around. But at the same time I don't really know how much we can do about it. I know that I'll try as long as I can and you will too but this isn't something that we can just fix overnight." He turned back to the food and took another mouthful. Chewing slowly he looked around again. The hall was emptying out now. How long had they been there for? He honestly didn't know what to say. He couldn't bring himself to say sorry to her. No matter how much he disliked what he had done he didn't think that he was necessarily out of line considering what he had assumed was going on. He also didn't want to bring up Scorp or what might be happening with Astoria. Cripes... Astoria. What the fuck was he supposed to do about that now. He was also not about to mention to the conversations he'd had with Blaise where his friend had been siding with Pansy, or that he hadn't seen any of his roommates since their last run in. Swallowing he gave her a wan smile, "Well?"

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

Pansy had fallen quiet as he spoke, and then didn't answer right off after he was done. She sat in the silence, figuring things out in her head or at least attempting to. It was a relief that he didn't want them to grow apart either, though she'd expected as much. When you grow up with someone like they had and you've been around them for almost every day of your lives, they sort of become this permanent fixture around you that just feels wrong when it's not there. "I know we can't just fix it overnight, but I don't know what to do about it either. I guess all we can do is just wait and see where this goes, see how things change with us, I suppose?" She didn't have to ask to know by now that whatever they had sort of agreed to try out that night in the lounge had been left behind. That was most definitely on hold, especially with that fight and the reappearance of Astoria into the mix of things. Pansy decided she should probably talk to Blaise and see what was going on. He'd know better than anyone else and she knew he would tell her things that Draco wouldn't.

[WELL I TRIED TO TELL YOU AND ASK YOU SOMETHING BUT YOU GOT OFFLINE NOW DIDN'T YOU. *JUDGES* and Pansy posted the same number as me!]

"That's all I can see to do." He could never have imagined that she would ever change but he'd also never expected that he would either. Draco had never dealt particularly well with change, Pansy had to know that. Truth be told though she had always been the one constant in his life so she had never had to be the recipient of his anger and jealousy. "Aren't you glad I dragged you away from all those books now? I honestly don't even know how you can stand to spend time in there," Draco was falling back into his flippant ways. "The old you wouldn't have been caught dead spending that much time in there, it's almost Granger-ish."

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"The old me? It's not Granger-ish, Draco. She goes for random facts and things that don't matter. I was actually doing something worthwhile in there that I'd been meaning to do for a long time. I just... never got around to it because of my mother and... yeah." She shrugged, glad she had at least been able to stop herself from saying 'and you'. The way he'd looked at her when he said it, as if he was looking down on her reading and teaching herself. "If you think the old me wouldn't have been caught dead in there, then you didn't realize what I did during the summers when you weren't around and how I spent the nights at school before I fell asleep. How else would I have known all those stupid constellation stories?"

[Draco Malfoy]

Draco scoffed, "Please. You read all those books but you didn't live in a little shell in the library." He rolled his eyes and ate some more food, falling quite comfortably back into this persona. He didn't even realize what he was saying anymore. "And they aren't stupid stories, they're always entertaining. Plus our home libraries are whole different class to this Hogwarts one. The variety here is crap and you know it. I can't even believe you've found anything decent to study whatever it is you're studying." Glancing at her he chewed on a large piece of meat.

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"Well, what's wrong with the library? And do you even care what it is I've been skipping meals to study? Apparently not since you haven't bothered to ask, just assumed it was something stupid." She looked at him rather upset, crossing her arms across her chest. She wasn't sure why it annoyed her so much, it just felt like he was telling her it was stupid for her to be studying like that, as if it were all pointless and she shouldn't be doing it. And she was probably jumping to conclusions like usual, but it felt like he was displeased by her attempts at increasing her intelligence. Not that she was stupid, far from it, but it was almost like the idea of her studying upset him. "Draco, what's wrong with me spending time in the library to study something that interests me?"

[Draco Malfoy]

"Jeeze Pans! What he heck? I'm just saying it's not like you to closet yourself away for days on end with a pile of moldy books!" He shot her another look, "What the hell is up with you lately?" He knew that Pansy had always done well in school and always studied but she'd never been a bookworm like Granger, "Honestly I don't even remember the last time you did extra work for any class other than astronomy." He couldn't believe how fucking defensive she was getting!

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"It's not for class. It's for me." She looked at him, wondering why everything managed to turn into an argument with them. "I'm teaching myself dueling, Draco. Attack, defense, spells, curses, counter curses, all the shit I never bothered to learn and was never allowed to study at home. 'You don't need to learn that, you've only got to concentrate on getting yourself a nice pureblood boy and settling down once you get out of school.' That's all I heard for my entire childhood, and now that I'm finally really doing something for myself, here you are telling me it's weird." She looked away from him and put her chin back in her hands, staring across the room at nothing in particular.

[Draco Malfoy]

"Look I should have asked Pans but really you have to admit this is incredibly unusual for you." He arched an eyebrow at her. "Whatever. Now are you done eating or do you want something else? You didn't really have all that much after all. A brownie or something before we go?" He was already tucking into a delicious looking lemon tart and had several biscuits and petit fours waiting for when he was done with it.

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"Not so much. The studying isn't. But I suppose the going against what my mother expects of me is weird. But could you blame me? You know how she is." She looked back at him as he asked if she wanted anything else, but she shook her head. She honestly wasn't in the mood to eat anymore. "No. I'm fine, I had plenty I promise. Not much in the mood for desserts." She watched as his plate was loaded up once again, and she wondered how he managed to say so muscularly thin with the way that he ate so much.

[Draco Malfoy]

Draco shrugged and quickly polished off his plate of desserts. "No one can really blame you for that... your mother is a wee bit obsessed with traditions from time to time." He shrugged and gazed at the trifle in the middle of the table. Glancing at her he decided she could hang on for a bit longer and loaded some of the delicious goodness onto his plate. "They really do make the best trifle here." He knew that he wouldn't be able to eat like this forever and was going to thoroughly enjoy his speedy metabolism while he could.

"Yeah, she can be a bit much." Pansy watched as he got even more food and wondered if he had intended on her to keep waiting on him or if she could wander back to the library yet. She was sure that madame Pince had taken advantage of her absence and had started putting some of her books back where they belonged. The thought made her a bit nervous as some of the books she had found were probably a little questionable in nature and subject. She wondered if Draco expected her to go with him anywhere else and figured she would suggest leaving and see how that went. "I should probably get back and defend my books from Pince."

[Draco Malfoy]

Draco sighed and put his fork down to face her, "If you're going back there now are you going to sleep tonight?" He didn't wait for her to answer, "I guess you should go rescue the books. Will you come eat with me again tomorrow?" He nudged his almost empty plate away and swung his leg over the bench. He was not about to let her slump into another pattern of missing meals and sleeping over books and apparently no one else was even noticing she was doing this to herself. "I really do miss you, Pansy."

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

Pansy almost replied 'Sleep, what is sleep?' but figured that would not go over well. Apparently Pansy is turning into Ashley or Ashley is turning into Pansy or we are just melding into one solitary person slowly but surely and I'm not sure how I feel about this. She shrugged as he asked if she would eat with him again tomorrow. "If you come get me when you're going to eat, I'll eat with you." She would let him make the effort when it came to this, she wouldn't be seeking him out. If he actually missed her and wanted to spend time with her, she would let him make it happen. But that didn't stop the small smile from spreading across her face as he told her he missed her, even if she wasn't sure she fully wanted to believe him.

[Draco Malfoy]

"I will," He got up and helped her stand too, "Well do try to get some sleep. We don't want you getting sick, you're the worst patient ever. Remember?" Slowly he started to walk her out of he hall to the stairs. "You sure you're going back up there?" He hoped she said no and came down to the dorms and got a real night's sleep but despite what she thought he did know her and knew exactly what her answer would be.

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"Yeah, I remember. I also remember you're the worst doctor ever." She laughed a little at him as they left the great hall, and she paused on the steps. "I'm sure." She nodded and went up a few steps before she stopped and turned around, knowing he was probably staring after her, not pleased with that answer. "I'll be fine, Draco. Promise."

[Draco Malfoy]

Draco watched her walk up the stairs and nodded at her when she turned back, "Goodnight then." He turned around and walked the other way down into the dungeons. He never had gotten that book that he'd gone to the library for. Oh well he could always get it in the morning, and check on her.

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

Pansy followed Draco into the Great Hall, taking a seat at the Slytherin table. She wasn't really feeling hungry, but knew Draco would be making her eat something anyway.

[Draco Malfoy]

Damn straight he would be. Settling down next to her and putting her bag on the other side of him from her he put a bit of food on her plate, a few of her favourites, and the began constructing the monstrosity that is Draco's dinner. "So have you done anything but study today?"

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"I think you know the answer to that. I went and dueled for a bit, but I guess that still counts as studying." She stabbed a few green beans with her fork, glancing at him a bit out of the corner of her eye because she knew she'd probably be scolded like some child for spending so much time in the library still.

[Draco Malfoy]

"Dueled? With who? And where!?!?" He watched carefully to make sure she ate properly, "And you really should get outside again soon. Do you even remember what daylight looks like?"

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"Just dueled myself, sort of. Practice dummies in the classrooms. And I did get out... well, not outside. But I at least went to the common room yesterday." Pansy shrugged, taking another small bite. "Talked with Blaise a bit."

[Draco Malfoy]

"MmHmm... where did you find the practice dummies?" He'd never seen any in Hogwarts before. "And I haven't seen Blaise in ages. Hell everyone seems to have vanished off somewhere." He shrugged and tucked into his own green beans.

[Pansy Parkinson-Malfoy]

"There are some in the old classrooms, the old defense room." Pansy would elaborate on her lovely chat with Blaise, but it hasn't technically happened yet so she can't. She picked up a roll and tore off little pieces and ate the slowly probably rather like a bird.
