"Oh really?" Ted smiled at her, "Well that's good. Which sister was it?" Ted somehow didn't see Molly and Lily being compatible. Ever.

"Alice, the youngest sister. Far as I'm aware, Molly still hates my guts," Lily says, far more airily than she feels about the subject. "We just sort of got to talking, which we've never really bothered to do before, and discovered it wasn't so hard to get along after all," she shrugs. "Funny, how first impressions and misconceptions can mess you right up sometimes, I suppose."

Ted nodded, "They really can. Like how I thought Andromeda was really nice when I first met her and then we got into a fight but then today she was so upset and it just messed up everything I thought..." He trailed off, staring out the window thinking about earlier.

"Three guesses what the fight was about," Lily mutters, because if you put a pureblood supremacist and a muggleborn in the same room, you already know what's going to happen, right? "It's sad that she was upset, though. Nobody deserves that, do you know what it was about?" Lily wonders, watching Ted become pensive.

"Hmm?" Ted looked back at her for a second, "Yeah, her famliy. Same thing we fought about really." Ted closed his eyes and leaned back, mostly talking to himself, "I don't know why someone as beautiful and intelligent as her would be with a dick like that."

"I suppose you never really know what makes people think the way they do," Lily muses, still watching Ted retreat further into himself. It doesn't take much to pick up on the clues from Ted's words; Andromeda Black is dating some pureblood boy, and he's a dick. Lily is suddenly very, very grateful to be with Gideon. "It's sad, though, watching people think they don't deserve the good things -the real good things, not the materialistic nonsense lots of people cling to- that everyone should have."

Ted nodded, still sitting there with his eyes closed, "It really is. Her boyfriend wasn't going to give her what she wanted for her wedding and her family supported him instead of her and her sister was being a bitch and just none of that is right."

Lily frowns. "Wedding? Already? She can't be more than seventeen, surely?" Then she realises that's not really the issue at hand and she tucks her hair behind her ear, refocusing herself. "What sort of boy doesn't want to give the girl he loves the wedding she wants? There's got to be limits, sure, but to a certain extent the wedding really is the bride's day, isn't it? I don't understand how purebloods do things sometimes, Ted, I really don't," she sighs.

Ted shook his head, "I don't understand it either. I mean I know people in my parent's social group who were basically an arranged marriage but still, if they had actually protested they would have gotten away from it." He shrugged and opened his eyes to look at her, "Anyway on a more cheerful note how's your love life?"

Lily wrinkles her nose a little, having grown up in a world where marriage should be a completely free choice. Unless of course she ever ended up pregnant out of wedlock, then her parents would have a thing or two to say about it and Lily's Dad's shotgun as well. "I suppose it's worked in the past, and it works in other cultures; if people are truly happy to live their lives that way, who am I to judge?" she murmurs, although there's still that tiny wrinkle of distaste in her nose. Lily hasn't seen Gideon since the Prefects' bathroom adventures she already told Ted about, so... *makes it up* "Just fine, thanks," she smiles. "I've been a little busy so I haven't had much chance to spend time with Gideon lately, but we're fine."

Ted grinned at her, "Well I'm glad to hear you two are still good. What've you been busy with? Schoolwork?" And Tam is now going to let Mya post because she's feeling uninspired.

Lily shrugs. "Schoolwork, friends, not-friends, people I loathe," she sighs. "I don't think I told you about the awkward moment when Potter caught me coming down from Gideon's dorm one morning, did I? And then I had an encounter with someone who used to be my best friend," she says, chewing her lip and looking absently out the window.

I gotta finish getting ready and go to work, love.

Ted chuckled at the idea of Potter catching her but when she mentioned the encounter he saw her expression change. He gave her a worried look and reached out to take her hand, "Who would that be?"

Lily lets her fingers close loosely around Ted's, grateful for the show of support. "Sev- Severus Snape. We met as kids, you know, even before Hogwarts. He's in Slytherin, though, so maybe you can guess what happened. I think everyone but me saw it coming," she says with forced lightness in her voice.

Ted squeezed her fingers gently, "I can guess. But if you've known him for that long then wouldn't he know better? and he's not a pureblood is he?" Ted hated it when people hurt his friends.

"He should've known better," Lily whispers, an angry, slightly sharp edge creeping into her voice. "He was spending all his time with that crowd - you know the one, everyone says they're already Death Eaters and he wouldn't listen to me when I said they were bad news. Then one day, Potter was up to his usual tricks tormenting Sev, and I stepped in and he just turned on me." Lily's eyes take on a faraway look as she recalls the scene under that tree by the lake. It was less than a year ago, but it still seems to Lily as if an age has passed since then.

Ted waited unti Lily stopped speaking before he moved over and pulled her into a hug. He rubbed a hand over her back and whispered quietly to her, his lips next to her ear, "I'm sorry Lils, no one deserves to be hurt like that, least of all you."

Lily hugs Ted back, clinging tightly to the offered comfort for a moment before she returns to her senses and pulls away. She shakes her head. "Nevermind. I'm being stupid; it's all water under the bridge now. It was just a shock is all, having him approach me again. Thanks, Ted," she says, and smiles slightly as she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.

Ted nodded, "Yeah, sometimes you think you're past something but really all it takes is the smallest reminder and everything comes flooding back." He smiled at her and relaxed against the wall again, "So how are your classes going?"

"They're going alright. I've got a Potions assignment that I need to get moving on, but that's the only pressing thing. Slughorn wants us to invent a potion that does something useful. Personally, I think he knows almost the whole class is going to fail, he's just lost his lesson plans for the rest of the year and is stalling for time," she confides, rolling her eyes slightly. "Still, it could prove interesting. I want to do something in the vein of a healing potion, but more targeted somehow."

Ted crinkled his nose, "Eww potions. So glad I'm out of that class now. I couldn't do it." Draco would like Ted to know that POTIONS IS THE BEST CLASS EVER! And Snape concurs. And Tam is leaving them to bicker. "I guess working with healing potion would be good experience for being a healer wouldn't it."

"Potions is easy," Lily shrugs. It's always just come naturally to her. "And that's what I am thinking; if I focus on some sort of healing potion, then it will fall under the category of 'useful' and it might help me learn for the future. I was going to explore if there's a potion that can target the specific effects of something, to be more effective than an all-purpose healing potion. Those things are little more than morphene, you know. They don't so much as heal you as keep you from feeling the pain while you heal naturally, only just a tad faster."

Ted looked across the hall, "So by more specific do you mean something to target cuts and bruises and things?" Ted thinks that Lily is awfully smart for getting Potions and he'll just happily stick with his transfiguration. And now Tam is going to draw that diagram for Mya...

Mya cannot wait for her lovely diagram from her twinsy.
Lily shrugs. "There are pastes and ointments that can heal and soothe those, really. I was going to be a little more ambitious and try and come up with something that can help negate the effects of the Cruciatus. It might be a little too out of the league of a sixth year," Lily admits, biting her lip, "But I am going to give it a go anyway. The pain from it can be soothed with an ordinary healing potion, but maybe there's a way to limit or reverse the chemical damage that's caused to the brain by excessive use of the curse. What d'you think? It's too much, isn't it? I'm probably going to fail and I'll end up whipping up some silly camouflage potion the night before it's due out of desperation, but I want to give it a go."

Ted tried to not make a dramatic lemur face at that. He really did. "Wow. That does sound ambitious BUT if anyone could do it it would be you. And also couldn't it be more of a project where he wants to see what you can do and if you can't get it right in time that's not a grade deduction? I feel like working on a project like that and making a decent amount of headway would still earn you a good mark."
