Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
"You're welcome," Hermione says, smiling softly at the younger, golden-haired girl sitting next to her. "Well, I wish I could be half as confident in myself as you are. I've always admired the way you stay true to yourself no matter what anyone else thinks - you never seem to be awkward, and I'm a little envious of that," she admits, because Luna never seems to care when people doubt her or belittle her, unlike Hermione herself who has to work hard to hide her feelings when they've been hurt.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna is still blushing, but at least she's not red as a quaffle. Just a lovely shade of pink. Not a purple kind of pink. Just a nice, light shade of pink. "You seem pretty confident to me. I mean, you're the smartest witch in the entire school and everyone knows it," she says softly. "And you're sweet, and brave, and honest..." she trails off before she goes into a nice, long list about why Hermione is the coolest girl in the whole wide world.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Hermione notices that Luna has gone a bit pink - not a purple kind of pink - but just assumes that it's simply being complimented that has made her friend self-conscious. And then it's her turn to blush at the list of positive attributes Luna hangs on her. She blinks, touched and a little overwhelmed by Luna's fierce loyalty to her. Turning in her seat so she's facing her friend, Hermione leans forward and pulls her into a gentle hug. "That means rather a lot to me, you know," she says, whispering the words still. She releases Luna and straightens in her seat, giving the Ravenclaw a brief smile full of friendship and solidarity.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna's heart rate speeds up as Hermione embraces her, mentally headdesking at the fact that she can't even handle a simple little hug from her friend without getting all nervous and excited. As Hermione pulls away, Luna finds her heart still racing as she sits there with her friend, wondering if maybe telling her how she feels would be a good idea after all. Hermione had always been honest with everything about Luna, and it was worth making their friendship awkward, right? At least it'd be better than having to keep this huge secret from one of her best friends. So, a good plan would have been to calmly explain her feelings to Hermione. But that's not what happened in the three and a half seconds after Hermione pulled away from the hug. What happened is Luna threw all logic out the window, and before giving it any real thought, she quickly pressed her lips to Hermione's and kissed her friend just like she'd always wanted to, not even thinking about the fact that Hermione could very well be straight or in love with that stupid Viktor Krum fellow because Luna has so found out that he's gay by now anyway.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Hermione's friendly smile as she pulls away from Luna turns into a more neutral look of concern in that three and a half seconds, because Luna's luminous eyes are wide, and her friend almost looks like she's shaking just a little. Before Hermione can reach out a hand to Luna's arm to steady her, to find out what's wrong, something changes in the space around them and somehow Luna's lips are on her own. Wide eyes still open and staring, Hermione freezes for a few moments. She doesn't have time to think, to logic her way through this, her eyes snap shut and she can't focus on anything but the feel of soft, feminine lips against her own, gentle and desperate and full of longing. Several seconds pass, and it's only when Hermione becomes acutely aware that Luna is kissing her, and she is kissing back that she comes crashing back to the world. Pulling away with a little gasp of confusion, Hermione stares.
"Luna..." she murmurs, but says nothing else because she has no idea what she's supposed to say, and the mess and jumble of feelings jostling in her stomach for seniority are far too confusing to make sense of anyway. Hermione bites her lip, scared of everything that had just occurred.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna is pretty sure she's never been happier than she is as Hermione actually kisses her back-- And oh no! She's pulling away. Luna's never had her first kiss until just now, but she's pretty sure that it wasn't supposed to be that short-lived. Nor was Hermione supposed to be looking at her like that. Luna panics and quickly reaches for her bag without looking Hermione in the eye, realizing that she's probably just ruined everything and is probably never going to be able to look Hermione in the face again. "I'm sorry," she mumbles, knowing that she'll be able to hold back any tears until she's at least out of the library as she stands up to go.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Everything is happening too fast for even Hermione's quick mind to process. She sits shell-shocked for a moment as Luna whispers a heartbroken apology and makes to leave. Hermione has almost nothing in this situation figured out right now, but she knows that things have changed in their friendship forever, and if she lets Luna leave now, she may be watching one of her closest friends walk away from her for the last time. "No," she whispers urgently, jumping up and following Luna the two steps she'd taken, grasping at her wrist and pulling her back around to face her. "Please, wait," she implores, staring into the pretty face before her. She just needs time, just a little time is all, to figure out what's going on, and how she can make things right, and what that weird fluttery feeling in her stomach means.
Hermione doesn't know the answer. All she knows is that this is Luna, her friend, her very female friend, and Hermione has always known she simply is not attracted to girls. It's never even been a question for her. But the face before her is so pretty and brings her so much happiness and comfort. And Hermione knows she would do anything in the world to make sure Luna was never in pain, like the pain etched across those lovely, almost ethereal features right now. She also knows that right or wrong, kissing Luna had felt good.
"I just don't know," she whispers, her voice laced with fright because she doesn't know what to do still.
Her hand stays clamped around Luna's wrist, holding the girl on the spot while she moves on instinct, leaning in and brushing her lips against hers once more. Maybe it had just been a fluke, and now that she's prepared she'll feel the right way to go. Oh... no, it still felt good, and the fluttering in her tummy whirs at the contact, and Hermione realises it's no fluke.
Pulling back for a moment, she smiles nervously at Luna, her hands moving up to cup the other girl's cheeks as she kisses her again, more deeply than before.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna just stands there, feeling hurt and embarrassed as Hermione stops her, wishing her crush would just let her run off and be alone like she wanted to rather than questioning what just happened. But as Hermione kept talking, Luna realized that she wasn't questioning the kiss. But she wasn't exactly saying that she appreciated Luna's sudden decision. She opened her mouth to apologize again, but stopped when Hermione's lips brushed against her own, her heart skipping a beat as she processes what's going on. Hermione is actually initiating whatever is about to happen next, and what happens next makes Luna the happiest girl in the world as she feels Hermione's gentle hands on her face and her soft lips against her own. Luna has never been in this situation before so she isn't quite sure what she should do with her hands, but as if on instinct, she finds her hands resting themselves on Hermione's shoulders as she kisses her friend back gently, letting this moment last as long as it can and not worrying about what they're going to do afterward.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Hermione feels Luna's small hands resting on her shoulders and smiles a little, because it feels nice. She's decided to not think for the moment, just to feel, and kissing Luna makes her feel good like nothing else has in her memory. She loves her friends dearly, but she can't help but wonder if this is what Audrey always goes on about, that feeling of being with a boy. Well, Luna is not a boy, but Hermione thinks if she's got the feeling wrong, she's going to let it stay wrong because it certainly doesn't feel that way to her. One of her hands slides back across Luna's cheek, her fingers slipping absently into her silky golden locks. The younger girl's lips are still just a little parted against her own from when she had attempted to speak, and Hermione, by no means an expert but following her instincts because her brains have no books and pitifully little real knowledge to dredge up on the subject of kissing, allows her own lips to part as well. Her tongue moves gently, tentatively forwards, taking its first taste of the sweet lips moving against her own. Just for now, the world has gone away and Hermione is content to let it remain gone.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna is very aware that first kisses aren't always perfect. In fact, up until now she'd always figured they were awkward, rushed, and a total disaster. But to be perfectly honest, Luna couldn't ask for a more perfect first kiss than this one right now. She sighs happily as she feels Hermione's hand in her hair, finding the feeling both gentle and comforting. One of her hands slides back around to rest on the nape of Hermione's neck, moving upwards slightly to let her fingers tangle themselves in the hair that Luna thinks is perfect no matter what some of the other students say about it. As she feels Hermione's tongue on her own soft lips, she hesitates slightly before allowing her own tongue to meet the older girl's, not wanting to seem like the innocent unicorn by doing something wrong.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Hermione thinks she must be very fortunate in her life, having only ever kissed people who clearly have a talent for it. Well, it's a very short list of people, beginning with one Viktor Krum and ending with one Luna Lovegood, but Hermione is still just fine with that. Feeling Luna's tongue start to gently seek her own, Hermione allows her own to play against it, marveling at how different kissing a girl is to kissing a boy. She can't say if it's better or worse, it's incomparable, really, and she thinks it doesn't really matter right now because Luna's hand is in her hair and that feels amazing too. Eventually, a little breathless, Hermione withdraws and gently disentangles herself from the slightly shorter girl. That may have been a mistake, though, because now she's thinking again and her overactive brain immediately whirls into action, scrambling to understand and justify and analyze everything that has come crashing down over the two girls in the last few minutes. It's rather daunting to consider, she thinks, how just one move can reset her entire view of the world, and of herself. "Oh. Well...."
She bites her lip again and pushes her hair back over her shoulder.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna wouldn't mind if this kiss never ended, loving the feeling of Hermione's mouth against her own and the soft touch of her hands in her hair, but eventually, Hermione pulls away and it's time for Luna to say something. Another reason why Luna wishes that kiss hadn't ended, it gave her the chance to just do something without thinking about what happens next, and now that it's over she's going to have to figure all that out. She looks up into Hermione's dark brown eyes and says the first thing that comes to her mind-- Nothing comes to her mind for the first time in her memory. Really all she wants to do is kiss Hermione again but that wouldn't get them anywhere, would it? She opens her mouth again, this time with more determination to actually form words and sentences. "So...What now?" she asks quietly, knowing very well what she wants but not the slightest idea of where Hermione wants to go with this.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
For the first time in her life, Hermione understands what could possibly be wrong with being a know-it-all. See, she's worked so hard to create a reputation for being the girl with all the answers, and now Luna is asking her questions and she has no earthly clue how to respond. Everything that's happening right now is all about feelings - there's no logic and fact in it for Hermione to grasp onto. It just doesn't make sense. "I don't know," she finally admits in a strained whisper, her eyes darting quickly around to make sure their private moment is still private. "I just don't know. I'm rather behind here, and it's all a little overwhelming. But I like you - I mean, we're friends and I've always been able to trust you, haven't I? And when we- what happened just now... I felt something. It's just a little confusing, to say the least," she confesses, glancing into Luna's eyes before dropping her gaze, nervously toeing the floor.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna feels that little flutter of happiness in her chest again. Hermione had felt something to, meaning that this wasn't just some silly kiss to her. Just an experiment or a fun little game. "Yeah, confusing," she murmurs, not sure of what else to say. This is sort of an awkward moment so it's not like saying anything else could make it even more awkward. Luna might as well tell Hermione what's on her mind now rather than keeping it in because there will probably never be a better time to get this out there. "I've wanted to do that...for a long time," she admits quietly as she looks down at her feet.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
"I had no idea," Hermione breathes, lifting her head once more and watching the fifth year as she takes her turn to look at the ground. She wonders exactly how long Luna has been feeling this way, and hiding it from her, and wonders how horribly clueless she must be to have never had an inkling. Oh, and here she had been, prattling on about boys and dates and the like this whole time. Hermione winces slightly at herself. Insensitive little twat, she had been. She watches Luna for a moment, a little intrigued by the way the light plays off her spun gold hair, knowing that whatever she does now, she has to do carefully because the last thing in the world she wants is to make Luna unhappy. She mulls it over, absently reaching out to move a stray strand of hair that has fallen over Luna's eyes in the process. She wanted Luna to be happy. She wanted herself to be happy. Luna has most definitely given her every reason to think that she could be happy with Hermione. Hermione... still has no real idea what she wants for herself, but she knows that kissing Luna had felt good, and making her smile feels good. It's a risk, but Hermione realises that it's a risk worth taking. She sighs and opens her mouth, picking and stumbling her way through the awkward conversation. "I... This is all so new to me, so sudden. I don't know for sure that I'm ready for this, Luna, I'm sorry. But I want... can we maybe try? If you want to, I mean. Of course if you wanted to leave it at this I would understand, but if not... we could see what happens? Um, it's just, I'm not sure if I'm ready for anyone to know," she whispers, shamefaced at her own weakness and dropping her gaze to the floor once more. Wow, this floor must be so interesting, because it sure is getting a lot of attention today.

Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Luna listens intently as Hermione finally speaks, bracing herself for the worst because she'd rather not get her hopes up if nothing is going to happen. As upset as she would be if nothing came out of this, she wouldn't regret kissing Hermione because that was probably the happiest moment of her life. She could find a Crumple Horned Snorkack tomorrow, and she'd still think that today was the best day ever. But Hermione doesn't say that they should pretend that this never happened, or that she needs to go suddenly. She said that she wanted to try! Luna's face lights up and she holds herself back so she doesn't throw herself at Hermione and give her a big hug because that would make forming sentences difficult again. She also hears the bit about Hermione wanting to keep this a secret, but Luna really doesn't care as long as Hermione is hers and she is Hermione's. Together. Just like Luna's always wanted it to be. "You want to try!? I...Hermione...Yes! I'd love that," she says happily as she throws her arms around Hermione and hugs her tightly. "And no one has to know," she says softly, still hugging her friend. "I understand." And she does understand. Luna's never been one to hide things about herself from people but she knows loads of people that do, and considering this is all new to Hermione, it doesn't come as much of a surprise to Luna that she wouldn't want people to know at first.
Re: The Library: Behind a Bookshelf
Relief floods Hermione when Luna response and pulls her in close again. She wraps her arms around the slight figure once more, hugging her tightly and realising for the first time that there is a little tingling sensation in her tummy when she holds Luna close. "Thank you," she murmurs, relieved. She'd half-worried that she's asking too much of Luna to keep things secret, but Luna's understanding means the world to her. She presses a soft kiss against her friend's pale cheek before pulling away and repeating her thanks. Then she sighs and runs a hand through her thick curls. "I should go. I'll see you soon, though," she promises. She quickly gathers her things and smiles shyly at Luna once more, reaching out to brush her hand lightly as she walks by. Just before she rounds the corner, she glances back and smiles again, colour still high in her cheeks. And then she's gone.

Luna doesn't say anything as Hermione leaves. She just smiles like a loon on loon tablets, her hand coming up to lightly touch her cheek where Hermione had kissed her. She stands there and watches Hermione leave before gathering up her things and leaving the library, feeling happier than she's felt in a long, long time as she makes her way out to the grounds to go pick flowers and do happy things.

Scorpius, who really hasn't been up to much since his last run in with Rose, entered the library and froze. He knew that Al would be annoyed with him, but something was drawing him towards Rose. He made his way over to the table, glad that it was off to the side and that no one could see them. "Weasel," he said in greeting, a slight smirk on his face.

Rose was studying as usual. She had been going over the twelve uses of dragons blood, which was something she knew by heart, but she was still studying it anyway. Whatever. She froze when she heard her name coming from behind her. She didn't even have to turn around it see who it was. There is just no escaping him, she thought, before saying his name coldly in return.

"Studying again, hmm?" he questioned. "Guess it makes sense, Merlin knows that you'll need to study a lot in order to best me with exam scores. No worries though, I won't go down without a fight," he grinned before taking a seat, quite uninvited.

Rose stiffened and focused on her notes as she tried to not look at him. She bit her lip nervously and opened another book, attempting to ignore him. He wouldn't get her down today. Nope. No way.

"I don't get it," he said with a dramatic sigh. "I mean, other than the occasional rude comments, I'm really not that bad of a person. Though, you seem to quite enjoy ignoring me right now. Rather odd actually," he said with a frown, for he was used to her snippy comments. "How long do you think you can last?" he mused aloud. "How far do you think I can push you Rose before you break that silence?" A smirk slowly began to form as he said, "Bet you'd only last a minute."
