"I suppose if she's always mad at you, there's not much you can do." She says. "Though, her being constantly mad at you makes it difficult to see your parents as often as you can. I hope they understand." She says sympathetically. "Maybe one day she will see past your differences and you two will get along once more." She thoughtfully said. "If not, it's her loss."

"Thanks," Lily says, smiling genuinely and then changing the subject. "So did anything exciting happen while you were with your family? Did you get any good Christmas presents?" she asks, her eyes roving over the beautiful, white-blanketed grounds.

"Nothing exciting really happened." She said, sighing. "It was fun, but not too exciting if you know what I mean." She said. "Aaaaand for christmas I got the outfit I'm wearing." She said excitedly as she stood up showing her this outfit and twirling.

After she twirled, she sat back down next to Lily, then asked, "What did you get for christmas?"

Lily's eyebrows raise and she smiles appreciatively at Dem's outfit. "Very pretty," she says, and when Dem sits back down she reaches in under her scarf and coat to pull out the silver chain securing her gift from Gideon about her neck. "Gideon bought me this," she says, smiling fondly.

"And Molly knitted me a gorgeous scarf, and I got a handful of good new books," she says, thinking about how lucky she's been. "A good haul, you know?"

Dem's jaw drops when she sees the necklace. "Wow! That necklace is gorgeous!" She says, admiring it before Lily puts it back underneath her scarf and coat. "That must have cost quite a lot of money." She wonders how much. "Ooooh, books. I love books! I unfortunatley didn't get any this year, but I'll probably get a few from the library sooner or later." She says, smiling slightly.

Lily bites her lip. That hadn't occurred to her before; that Gideon may have spent quite a bit of money on her for Christmas. Lily has seen Molly's designer shoe collection, and none of the Prewetts ever seem to go without anything so she knows they aren't skint, but she hopes that he hasn't spent too much. After all, she just likes the necklace because it was from him, and it's beautiful. "I hadn't thought of that," she admits sheepishly. "Yeah - most people just buy me books because they don't know what else to get me. My friend Remus bought me a poetry book, and... someone else bought me a Charms book," she says after a second's hesitation. Stupid Potter, even stalking her in her conversations now.

"Don't worry about him spending money on you. He's your boyfriend, he's allowed to get you nice things." She told her. "A little spening every now and then never hurt no one." She reassured. "Well, at least they won't be stuck buying gifts for you. And you'll never run out of books to read." She said brightly.

Lily tucks her hair behind her ear and her lips quirk. "I suppose you're right. It just takes a bit of getting used to, I think. And that's a good point - I'm really not fussy about what books I get, I'll read almost anything at least once. Some of my favourites I've read so much that I have to replace them, though," she chuckles.

"I'm like you. I don't really mind what book I'm reading, as long as it's good. I also like quite a lot of muggle books." She stated. "I get my mum to send me them from home. She's not a muggle, but loves reading their books. So do I. They're great." She then explained to Lily. "I don't think I've had to replace any books yet, but some are nearly at that point." She says, thinking of her copy of Quidditch Through The Ages on the stand next to her bed in her dorm.

"So how did your mother get into muggle books, then?" Lily asks, curious. "Being muggleborn, naturally I grew up with only muggle literature so I love the classics, there's something about them that's just comforting and reminds me at home. But since I've come here I've also developed a penchant for magical theory texts."

"When she was at school, she took muggle studies and in the holidays she would go to muggle bookstores and buy books for something to do. I guess she go into them in doing this, passing a liking of muggle books onto me. I don't know what it is about them. I just really like them." She nodded as she finished the story. "And that is how I, Demelza Robins, came to like muggle books."

Lily chuckles. "A touching story of family tradition," she jokes. "So is there anything else from the muggle world you're really into? It's sort of fascinating to me, to see how some wizarding families mix the two cultures - from the way Gideon tells it, the Prewetts live mostly muggle with just a few of the magical perks at home. But I think some of the oldest pureblood families don't know anything muggle at all!"

"Well," She thinks of her life at home. "We mostly cook without magic and we sometimes play muggle board games, but apart from that, we just live like normal wizards." She tells. "I like mixing the two. It's nice not to use magic and do wizards things all the time." She says, thinking of christmas and the fun they had doing magic and non-magic things.

"I wouldn't really know what it means to live like 'normal wizards'," Lily points out with a smile. "Do you use electricity? It fascinates me how Hogwarts functions completely without it. It's a shame, though; there's so much of the muggle world I miss while I'm here. Mostly television," she confesses, because Lily has a secret love of trashy muggle cartoons. Shut up, she loves American Dad. "I've been working on a way to try and get an iPod to work here, too, using my OWL level Muggle Studies texts. I've got most of the magical interference minimised as much as can be, but I'm still fine-tuning it," she says proudly.

'Yes, we do use electricity. Just like a regular muggle house, but we use magic. So we have a tv, stove, oven and all that jazz." She explains. "Yeah, it is a shame, imagine what it would be like if there was electricity here. Though, I suppose with all the students here casting spells frequently, theres a high chance that something could go wrong." She says, pointing out the down side to power here. "An iPod? I think I've heard of them. Don't they play music for you, wherever you are? It's a brilliant muggle invention."

"Oh," Lily says, enlightened and a little disappointed by Dem's revelation. When she'd first started at Hogwarts, she'd had all these grand images in her head of the fantastically medieval and magical way in which the entire wizarding world must be styled, but she's learned since that it's not the case. "I guess I'll just have to content myself with knowing Hogsmeade is entirely magical. I doubt I'll ever be invited into any of the homes of the fanatically pureblooded families to see the difference, anyway," she shrugs. "Mmhmm, that's exactly what it is. Some also have games, and videos too, but the downside is to put more things on there you need a computer, and I've got no hope of ever getting one of those working at Hogwarts, so I'm stuck with whatever happened to be on my iPod when I arrived in September," she explains. She had intended to update it over Christmas, but clearly that did not happen.

"Wow... games and videos as well? Muggles these days are so smart. I just wonder how they think of these things." She says, staring off into space. Just let her have her moment. "Well, it's too bad that you won't get a computer working here, but soon you'll probably get an iPod to work here, so at least you'll have some sort of muggle technology working here." She says, smiling.

Lily lets Dem have her moment. We all need a moment sometimes. She should have a break. If Lily had a kitkat, she would give it to Dem. She shrugs, considering Dem's musings. "I suppose it's much the same as wizards come up with new spells and potions and the like. If something is needed, then you'll invent it in the best way you know how. I guess a lot of muggle technology gets put to use for leisure as much as real value, which I suppose is a little different to magic in some ways..."

"Yes, you're right I suppose. It's much like us creating new things. When it's needed, or wanted, someone finds a way, even if it takes a while. It's quite amazing though, the things that can be made by mixing two things together." She says quite quickly, then apologises. "Sorry. Sometimes I talk fast without really thinking about what I'm saying."

Lily laughs off Dem's apology. "I wouldn't worry about that, Dem," she assures the young Gryffindor, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I know people who don't think about what they're saying who talk twice as fast, twice as much, and say infinitely stupider things than I've ever heard come out of your mouth. It's fine."

"Oh, good." She says laughing, "After I said it, I thought to myself, 'Oh my god, what if she thinks I'm talking too fast and not making sense.' But, I wasn't, so it's all cool." She said, smiling slightly. And this short post is short because I can't think of anything to type right now.

I have to go make dinner in a few minutes, so I might end this for now. *nods*

Lily laughs along too, waving away Dem's concerns and enjoying the moment of lightness. It's been nice, she muses, getting out into the fresh air and just talking to someone who isn't a boy for a change, really. But the cold snow beneath them is starting to freeze Lily's backside, and the seat of her jeans is growing too damp to ignore, so she sighs and stands up. "I'm going to move on before my butt freezes to the ground," she says with a smile. "It was really nice talking to you, Dem - catch you again soon. Bye," she says, smiling and waving slightly as she walks off. And then, after a few steps, because her Prefectness kicks in, she turns. "Don't stay out too long, and make yourself sick," she calls back, and then she's trudging back towards a hot bath and hopefully some hot chocolate with the little marshmallows in it.

"Yes, that's probably a good idea. I'm starting to get cold out here." She says as she gets up. "Well, it was nice to see you and I hope to see you again." She waves to Lily as she leaves, then not long after, she walks back up to the caslte, looking forward to the warmth.
