Re: Somewhere by the Lake
"Really? What kind of bat? Like the beater's bats? Do they beat away Bludgers? And do you use your hands like Chasers do with the Quaffle?" Arthur asked excitedly. He wished that Ted would take him into the Muggle world and show him all these sports and let him talk with all the Muggles.

Ted shook his head, "No it's more like a flat bat. And with cricket you don't but with rugby you have to run with the ball. It's a contact sport, so there's a lot of tackling and slamming into people." Ted grinned, "It's probably my favourite after football."

"Sounds amazing, "Arthur replied, "though I don't think I'd be much good at it. I'm not a violent person by nature. I do like football though. It sounds really excitements."

Ted nodded, "Football's a lot more fun for me. You should come visit me over the summer and I'll get some of my mates together for a pickup game." Yes. Muggles. GASP.

"I could? I would love to you. Thank you Ted!" Arthur said, jumping up and down excitedly; he would actually get to interact with real, live Muggles! He hugged Ted excitedly, like he did with his brothers whenever he was in a good mood.

Ted laughed and hugged Arthur back, "Not a problem mate!" He let go and grinned, "I gotta go now though." He patted Arthur on the back, promised to see him soon then jogged off.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Sidney walks out of the castle doors and down to the lake, her bag and a book in hand. It had been a hectic schedule since she had started here at Hogwarts. She finally had some free time and she decided that she would make the most of it and do a little bit of reading outside in the nice weather. She found a nice and grassy spot and sat down and opened the book, beginning to read.

Marlene wanders along the shoreline, still enjoying the freedom of being outdoors. Marley likes the bite of fresh air on her face and she looks almost longingly out at the water; it's still just a tiny bit too cold to swim. She hears a rustling and and turns to see a girl settling in with a book. Marlene frowns, because there's something vaguely familiar about this girl and she must've seen her somewhere before. "Hey, do I know you?" she asks when she's close enough to speak without shouting.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Sidney hears a person talking to her and looks up from her book slowly to the girl who was asking if she knew her. Sidney had been at Hogwarts for a while now, but still didn't know all too many people. The girl looked a little bit familiar, but she was sure that if they had met, she would remember, so she politely says, "No, I don't think you do." And slowly looks back down at her book again, not being one to be confident in front of strangers, or most people for that matter. After a few seconds she slowly starts to read the last bit on the page she was on and turns it over to the next page, hoping that the person wouldn't think she was rude for reading again.

"Whatever," Marlene says, and turns back to look at the water. She pauses a moment, then pulls out a cigarette and lights it with the tip of her wand. What's this girl going to do, tattle on her? She doesn't even know her name. Marlene is glad the other girl remains silent for a while and turns back to her book; it's much easier to get used to her presence than the ridiculously friendly attentions of a certain Hufflepuff (and that sounds dirtier than it's intended to so oops). After a few drags of her cigarette, Marlene speaks. "What're ya reading?" She keeps her face turned towards the water, as if she doesn't much care one way or the other, though her natural curiosity is awakened.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Sidney can smell smoke and curiously looks up a little to see the girl smoking. She knows that that sort of behaviour isn't allowed at Hogwarts and she should probably tell someone about it, but for some reason she won't. She has never been big on telling on others, it seems like such a childish thing to do, even if rules are being broken, it just doesn't seem right. If the person is doing something wrong, they most likely know it, so she just leaves it and responds to her question. "Oh, I'm reading Pride and Prejudice. It's a muggle book."

"Yeah, heard of it," Marlene says, with a shrug. "Couldn't even finish it; I thought it was crap," she says bluntly. Inner!Lily, Inner!Hermione and Outer!Mya are all looking at Lene in horror right now. But Marlene doesn't understand the appeal of it; she thinks that romance is dead and those stupid Bennett girls should've spent less time worrying about finding husbands to take care of them and more time figuring things out for themselves.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Sidney was slightly saddened when she heard that as she loved that book herself. She just gave a small shrug and said, "Well, I actually really like the book." And decides to change the conversation and make some small talk with the girl. "So, whats your name?" She curiously asks, looking at the girl. She didn't really know what to think of her yet. She didn't seem like the nicest person at Hogwarts, yet she didn't seem like the worst. All she knew about her was that she didn't seem anything like herself and Sidney mostly bonded with people who were somewhat like her.

"Whatever," Marlene says again, not wasting any more breath on the subject. "Marlene. Who wants to know? You're a Claw too, right? I think that's how I know you," she says, finally having placed where she might have seen this girl before.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Sidney gave a small nod when asked if she was in Ravenclaw as well. She was slightly surprised when she was a Claw too. She didn't seem to act like all the rest of the Ravenclaws, but she wasn't one to judge. She had been told that Slytherins were awful people for the most part, but she had met some really nice ones, so she decided that she wasn't going to judge someone she had just met, based on a few actions and words. "Oh, I'm Sidney by the way." She shyly informed Marlene, even if she hadn't asked for her name.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Marlene nods her acknowledgment of Sidney's introduction. "Figured that's where I'd seen you. So do you always read muggle books?" she asks, wondering where the girl's affinity for Austen comes from but not asking the question. Getting too close to people only turns out badly, so Marlene tries to avoid getting to that stage where she might relate to someone. It's a slippery slope from relating to caring, and only a short drop to hell from there in Marlene's book.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
"No, not always. It's about half and half. I do tend to read muggle novels a bit more though. It's because up until now, I was homeschooled. I know what you're thinking. Homeschooled kids are freaks. Or that we're weirdly religious or something, but my family's totally normal. And I would go to muggle bookshops more than Diagon Alley because they were just closer." She explained. Even though she didn't open up and talk about things that often, one thing she did like to talk about was home. She had been there all her life and sometimes she really missed it.

LOL
Marlene pulls a face. "Why'd they send you here now? It's not like it's going to make much difference in the long run," she says. Hogwarts might be the safest place in Britain right now, but security only seems to lead to complacency, and once you let your guard down it's all over, Marlene knows.

"Well, it was mostly my decision. It took a bit of convincing, but I'm glad that they let me. I really wanted to just, experience Hogwarts, you know?" She explained to Marlene. She honestly did want to be at Hogwarts, even though she misses home a lot, it was a good choice on her behalf to come here.

"Whatever." Apparently that's Lene's favourite word. "And does it live up to your expectations?" she asks sardonically and takes another long drag of her cigarette. Lame!Post is lame because Mya is le tired and Marlene isn't the friendliest person at the best of times.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
"Yes, actually, it does. It's so amazing. The grounds, the castle, the people, just everything is all so amazing!" Sidney says, completely unaware of the way Marlene was talking to her. "What about you, though? Have you been at Hogwarts since your first year? Or are you a transfer or something else?" She curiously asks, her natural curiosity taking over, even though she knew that she was probably annoying the girl.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
Marlene chuckles humourlessly. Sidney was so bright and innocent, worlds away from Marlene herself; there's a freshness about the girl that makes Marlene think it's not even worth making fun of her because she wouldn't even notice the slights. She wonders when that edge of innocence will be lost for her fellow Ravenclaw. "Been here this whole time," she says simply. "Just kept out of most people's way for the last seven years." Well, in reality, it's only been since about fourth year that Marlene has been so antisocial, but she's been cold so long that she forgets what life was like before the summer between third and fourth year, when the war first touched her family.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
"Oh, I see." She simply says and starts to wonder about Marlene. On the outside she's someone who is a tough, no-nonsense sort of person, but she seems like so much more on the inside. Was there something that happened that made her like this? Or has she always been like this? Just the way she was brought up. "So, what do you do if you don't have people to hang out with?" She curiously asks because even though she has been at Hogwarts for a little while now, she still didn't know what a lot of people did in their spare time, surely they weren't all like she was and liked to read and relax mostly, when she wasn't studying, of course.

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
"Stuff," Marlene shrugs, while she figures out if she really wants to go into detail or not. She decides not, but that doesn't mean she can't give an edited version of the things she gets up to, right? "Mostly read, study, practice DADA to hone my defensive skills. Gonna be a cursebreaker," she says, because she's just decided that.
Also, Inner!Marley is sulking because I wouldn't let her give her original response to how she spends her time - drinking, smoking & masturbating. I told her to behave and she called me a whole bunch of rude words. >.>

Re: Somewhere by the Lake
I think she'd probably give Sidney a heart attack. *pats her and her innocence*
"Oooh, a cursebreaker. Sounds interesting, but not my sort of thing." She informs Marlene. "I want to be a healer when I'm older." She informs her like she's a little kid telling her parents. She had only decided that she wanted to be a healer quite recently. She wanted to do it because she wanted to help people and maybe, just maybe make a difference and impact someone drastically and save their life.
