Severus half smiled. She was so innocent, it always seemed like he was an age older than her. She was still so hopeful, so naive. She wasn't yet so jaded. "No, I won't let myself lose her again. But it doesn't mean what she does doesn't hurt me. I've given up all hope of her ever looking at me, the way I want her to. I never understood it, Cissa. All these years, there hasn't been a time I didn't love her, even when we were just kids, before Hogwarts. She's always been everything to me. She was all I ever had. And all these years, I've said the same damn things, over and over again, and it makes no difference to her, not unless it's someone else saying it to her. Krum calls her beautiful, and she swoons. I've told her she was beautiful for so long I can't remember, and she never once saw anything in me."

Cissy frowned a bit. "I keep saying it, but I only wish she could hear you or something!" she sighed. "Why is it that you don't just tell her? Because you're afraid of damaging your friendship? Or because you're afraid of that asshole who dared step in your way?" She actually felt a stab of anger at the man who had taken Sev's love away from him and bit her lip.

Severus glared at her. "Please, afraid of him? Did you not see the damage I did to Sirius that one time? Or, rather, two times? And the kind of shape James was left in, any time we really fought? I've got nothing to fear, if I have my wand," he muttered. "I don't need a quidditch player's body to kick ass. No. I won't tell her, because I can't. I'd lose her. She'd never want to be around me again. And I can't bear that thought."

Cissy nodded in understanding and, for lack of any sentimental words of wisdom, hugged him. She let go and smiled a bit. "Sorry, Sev... About being right before. I wish I wasn't because love sucks, so I hear." after a moment of silence she looked at him again. "Are you sure there aren't any ways you can fix those cuts up?"

Severus stood up to leave. He just wanted to get back inside, he was cold and tired. "No, there isn't, I learned that last time," he said, trying not to laugh at her horrified expression. "Don't worry. They'll heal. I'll be fine. I don't really want them to heal right now anyway. The pain feels good."

Cissy stood up as well and hit him in an unscathed area on his arm lightly. "You sadistic freak," she said, smiling a bit. "You know, one of these days you're going to give me a heart attack or something. You worry me too much." she stretched and began to walk towards the castle. "Well, I'm going to head up to the Common Room or the Library and get some work done. See you!" she said cheerily and skipped off.
