Severus sighed, and hugged Lily a moment, deciding it wouldn't hurt to tell her. He needed someone to talk to. Taking a deep breath, he looked at her and responded. "Somehow, Hermione found out about me and Draco, and she said something to him, from what I gathered from him yesterday. I don't know what she said to him, but it must have been horrible. He came into the dormitory screaming and upset, and then he tried to kill himself. All I can say is I was glad I was there to stop him," he said quietly, not wanting anyone to overhear.

Lily hugged him back, trying to be comforting. Hermione...even after what happened with Remus and Sev, why would you do that!? Even Malfoy...too many people could be, were, hurt because of jealousy.. Lily looked at him sadly. "I'm sorry Sev, even if I'm not overly fond of Malfoy, we've never met, and I wouldn't wish him dead. I'm glad you could keep him from it. See? You're a good person. I'll talk to Hermione if you want about her words and actions recently." Though she doesn't know about me knowing about Sev and Draco...but she was bad enough at the spin the bottle game.. She sighed. "I haven't told anyone I know about you and Draco...but it's not the first time she's been a bit over the top recently...this is such crazy drama, Sev."

Severus sighed, and looked at her. "I somehow doubt anything you say could make her regret it. She certainly seems to revel in the misery of others. "I know you wouldn't tell anyone. I just don't know how she found out. The only people who know are me, Tam, and Adrian. And you know how they know? They were spying on us, the freaks. They saw everything. I know it was Tam, I know it was. She's friends with Whoremio- er, Hermione. I just yelled at her about it, and she kept going on about how it wasn't her. But if it wasn't her, how else would she know?" he asked himself. "It is crazy. And I wish it would all just stop. I don't know how things ended up like this. At least things are better now, with Draco and I. He agreed to just put it behind us, that our friendship was more important. And when I came back in from the tower I saw him and Pansy together, and they looked happy. I'm so happy for them," he said, a tiny smile finding its way onto his face as he recalled some of the words he'd heard in passing on his way to the dormitory. They're good for each other.

I'm going to pretend I didn't hear him almost call my friend that.. Lily smiled. "Thanks Sev, you could have just as easily blamed me for being Hermione's friend, as someone in your own house. Maybe...maybe you should just forget about how she found out? I could try and find out..but I don't see how it would do any good." She paused. "Oh another note, look at this! You and Draco are friends, he and Pansy are back together...things ARE better, at least by a bit!" She motioned to the space around them. "Besides, on top of everything, it's a bright sunny day and neither of us are too busy to spend time with each other, as good friends should!" A hopeful smile crossed her face, hoping his mood was at least slightly lightened.

Severus grinned at her. She was right. He was sick of dwelling in his own pity and misery, sick of crying all the goddamn time. He just wanted a chance to feel happy again, the way he used to around her, before stuff started falling to shit. "You're right. We do need to spend more time together. Things are always better when you're around," he said, looking up at her with his first genuinely happy smile in days. "Hey! Isn't there a Hogsmeade weekend coming up? Maybe we could spend some time together there," he said, looking at her hopefully.

[I don't remember if I made the announcement, I'll go check. But I thought we needed one, it's been ages.]

"Oh Sev, it's so nice to actually see you smile! Thank you." Lily paused, the smile stuck on her face. "Oh, is there a Hogsmeade weekend coming up? We could definitely hang out! No, we will! I haven't been to Hogsmeade in well... a fairly long while, and I haven't made any plans anyway." She moved a bit forward, so she could lay down on the grass. "It'll be loads of fun. We haven't spent time at Hogsmeade together in AGES! " It will be fun. Even if James shows up before then, I won't turn my back on Severus. It's been too long since we spent a good bit of time together and he hadn't asked me yet anyway...besides, last time I went to Hogsmeade was with him, and he ditched me...same time I found out about he and the Marauders and the Animagi-for-the-werewolf thing...

Sev's face lit up with joy- he honestly hadn't expected her to agree. "Me either! I don't even think I went on the last trip, and that was ages ago. It'll be so much fun," he said excitedly, smiling down at the paragon laying in the grass, her red hair framing her fair face. "It would be nice to spend the day with you," he said happily. It was a long time since he'd actually looked forward to something, and it was a good feeling to know that he had something worth waiting for. "I miss spending time with you," he said, gazing into her eyes. "We've been growing apart, and I don't like that."

Lily couldn't help but smile, he looked so happy for the first time in a long time. Her eyes ran over him, lit up by sunlight and joy. She supposed she probably looked at least half as happy and excited...though probably brighter, thanks to her hair and the sun. "I don't like us growing apart either, Sev. " Though it sort of can't be helped, what with me and James being...closer, and Hermione and Remus and all... She took a deep breath, enjoying the clean,fresh air. She moved her eyes to meet his. "Of course it'll be fun, Sev! It'll be nice to spend the day with you too!"

Severus turned just the slightest bit pink as she returned his gaze. He felt that old, fluttering feeling in his stomach returning- it had been a long time since he'd felt it. Then again, it had been a long time since it was just the two of them, spending time together, when he wasn't either insanely depressed or too caught up in his thoughts to really be aware of his surroundings. It had been too long since he'd really looked at her, really taken in her pulchritude and loveliness. She really is the very definition of beauty. "It doesn't have to be like this, if we don't want it to. We can make our friendship work, we have to. I don't know what I'd do without you."

[Yeah, sorry for the late reply on my part too. Computer decided it had a problem and had to restart...then I wanted to watch the end of Luck of the Irish. Not half as good a reason. Also, this is adorable in the extreme. ]

Lily closed her eyes for a moment, cherishing the warmth of the day, and the dappled sunlight through the leaves above her. It's been too long she she took time from studying to just relax with ANY of her friends, and even longer since that friend was Sev, and neither one of them had drama weighing them down. At his words she looked up at him again, the smile that had faded slightly returning again. "I know, Sev. I don't want it to be that way at all...it won't be. You're too good of a friend to consider losing, and have been such for a long time...I mean, you were the first person to encourage my.." She laughed softly. "'Talent', with my sister being so scared of it, and call it magic. My first friend that I could talk to about strange things like making a flower open and close without really doing anything. Nothing should distance us...things have, but they shouldn't. "

[What does pulchritude mean exactly, by the way? I just haven't heard the word before.]

Severus smiled up at her, remembering that day. He'd been so upset at the time, the way it had gone all wrong, but it was okay now. Things had fixed themselves. "You were the first friend I ever had," he reflected, thinking about that day. "Oh Merlin, I felt so stupid that day though. 'You're a witch,' honestly. I never was one for tact, I suppose," he laughed, remembering her offended expression. "You were the first person to look past my reputation, my appearance. You were the first person who ever had a kind word to say to me. No, I won't let our friendship fade, Lily. It means far too much to me. You mean far too much to me," he said, touching her face softly. "And talent would be the word. There are few witches with as much talent as you. And to think, you were afraid you wouldn't be 'as magical' because of your parentage," he laughed. "You're one of the most skilled witches in the school, you realize?"
