"Is that what you want?" Faye looked down at her lap, her fingers tracing over the packaging in her pocket. She took a deep breath of the fresh air and felt the urge to smoke. She resisted and returned her gaze to Scorpius, attempting to get her mind off of it, "Just friends?"

"I never said that would make me happy. I don't know what makes me happy anymore," Faye muttered. She liked Scorpius, she did, but she was thoroughly confused. She didn't know if she was ready for this relationship. This experience was entirely new to her and she never expected to ever have it, "I've never been in a relationship. I never expected to be in a relationship. I mean, how can you like me when you don't even know that I smoke? Or that I'm addicted to it? Or that the letters to my parents never have any ounce of truth in them?" She smiled, but her eyes showed sadness, "I'm not a happy, bubbly person. I'm not a Penny. I'm not any of the girls from any of the houses. I'm stupid, melancholy, mudblood Faye."

So you smoke," he says sighing. "It's not the end of the fucking world. I mean, you hide it really well. As long as I don't taste or really smell it, that doesn't really bother me. So you have a fucked up relationship with your parents. That's their loss. I know fucked up relationships, I'm a Malfoy, remember? And I don't give a fucking shit if you're a "mudblood"," he quotes, slightly irritated with her word choice. "Blood doesn't matter to me, unlike everyone else in Slytherin."

Faye jumped back at his tone, arching a brow at him. Her smoking didn't bother him. That was interesting. She sighed, "I don't like hiding myself. I don't want to put on this mask. You don't like the smoking, I know you don't, and I understand. I'm 'cutting my life short' and 'making my life worse', but you don't understand. It helps. The cigarettes - I don't know how to explain it - they clear my head for a small millisecond. They remove all the crazy thoughts about anything and everything from my head. You won't understand that and I get it. You're still going to try and get me to quit," She paused and pulled the pack from her back pocket, setting it on her lap, "I've tried before. I can't - I always come back. My parents are the only people I have back home. I don't like lying to them either, just as I don't like lying to my friends. I can't tell them what I'm doing or they won't send me back here. Please, shut up about the blood thing. How can it not matter to you? You come from a long line of purebloods! What would your parents think if you brought Faye Denowitz, the cigarette smoking, disconnected from her parents, dirtyblooded girl home? They'd KILL you."

"Alright, fine, the smoking thing does irritate me a bit," he admits with a shrug. "But I can deal with it. It's a fucking addiction, and obviously is hard to break. I'm not going to pressure you into stopping, though I will be here for you if you want help. I also don't think you have any right in judging my family or bringing them into the equation. My mother always taught me to follow my heart. My father, doesn't even give a shit about me. I don't fucking care what they think. Me wanting to be with you," he says glancing at her, "isn't their fucking concern. I highly doubt they would kill me, and if that's the case, then they aren't worth having in my life. I take my happiness as much more important than there's."

"I'm sorry, it's just..." Faye swallowed and let her fingers trail over the packaging again, unsure of what to say in response to all that, "I never imagined being with a Malfoy. It never occurred to me that your family would be different than what everyone has told me. I guess I was a little judgmental," She sighed and brushed a strand of her hair out of her face, "Are you telling me, now, that you don't want to be just friends?" She turned to look at him, her brows raised in curiosity, "Because - " She paused, her hands enveloping the pack of cigarettes and squeezing tightly, "I really, really like you. I don't want to sit here and have you tell me these things only for you to not want that."
