Teddy nodded, "I'm sure if I could do anything musical, I would understand. Unfortunatly, you seem to have all the talent there." He slipped all the ingredients he wanted into his bag, then moved to sit on the desk across from Al. "So, how's it going? I haven't seen you around." It seemed to Teddy that when people get to seventh year and everyone starts taking the classes they're intrested in, it becomes difficult to see people not in your house. "I haven't really seen much of anyone."

Al shrugged. "Things have been okay. I've just sort of been figuring things out recently-- I'm gay. That's new," he told Teddy with a small smile. "Though, I can't say anyone's really shocked to hear that. It seems like most people knew I was gay before I did. So, I've been spending most of my time with my boyfriend and some other friends. Nothing exciting, really." Other than almost being killed at Malfoy Manor and getting into a fight with Scorpius.

Teddy blinked at that admission, but didn't say anything. Beening half-werewolf, he figured he didn't really have the right to judge anyone. Besides, he'd known Al forever. They may as well have been brothers. "Your boyfriend." He inquired to, instead, "And who's that? If you don't mind my asking." He was extra careful to keep a friendly look on his face, and maintain eye contact. He wasn't sure yet whether this topic was sensitive to Al or not, and wanted to tread carefully.

"Scorpius," he answered with a brief smile. He loved Scorpius, he did. He just wished that most people would take it better. He may be a Malfoy, but he wasn't at all like Draco or Lucius had been. Though, Teddy had always been amazing and Al thought of him as a second brother. He knew Teddy would be more accepting than James had been, hopefully. "We've been friends since first year, but this year we sort of...realized that we were gay and worked better as a couple."

That, Teddy wasn't expecting. He was prepared for a Ravenclaw, someone smart; maybe a Gryffindor. That had always seemed like Al's type, whether it be a man or women. But Scorpius? His cousin? Not only his cousin, but a Malfoy. A member of the family he hated. He shook his head, unable to speak. Too many thoughts were flying through his head. True, he had never given Scorpius a chance. But did he deserve a chance? All of a sudden he was back in the kitchen with his grandmother, twelve years old and asking yet again where his parents were. They're gone. She had told him, Because of some people who saw personal gain as more imporant than family. Scorpius' grandmother had killed his mother, Teddy refused to see her as related to him. He blinked several times into silence, settling for just saying, "But we don't like their family."

Al bit his lip and looked down at his guitar, running his hands over the strings as he tried to think of what to say. "I'm not dating the Malfoy family, Teddy. I'm dating Scorpius. He's his own person. I know he has the name, but he's not like the other Malfoys. He's different. He's amazing, and sweet, and perfect. If you met him, I think you'd really like him if you gave him a chance." He looked up at Teddy, trying to communicate just how much it would mean to him if he didn't hate his boyfriend. "He doesn't think the way his father did. You honestly wouldn't even be able to tell he was a Malfoy unless I told you."

Teddy nodded, remember what he thought like one post ago about not judging people. "You're right, Al. I'm sorry. I guess I'd like to meet him sometime, given that we are cousin." He attempted a small smile, then looked down at his hands which were resting in his lap. It would take a while to accept that Scorpius wasn't like the rest of his family, if that was even true. He looked back up and met Al's eyes, approaching this topic gently, "So, how did James take it? I'm assuming you told him..." Teddy trailed off, assuming what would have happened. James and Al hadn't really seen eye to eye since they'd been sorted differently. This was probably one more wall that went up between the two of them.

"Mmhm," he nodded, biting at his lip as he glanced down at his guitar again. "I told him. He...We haven't spoken much since then. He hates the idea, and he hates Scorpius, and he hates me. He won't even listen to me when I try to explain that Scorpius is different. And now he has an amazing girlfriend and he didn't even tell me about her. I had to find out from the girl, herself. It's like we don't even know each other anymore," he confessed quietly, frowning as he thought about how much he had grown apart from his brother over the years.

"Al," Teddy started, unsure of what exactly could be said to make his friend feel better, "James just needs time. He grew up more sheltered then you or me. He was the oldest, got sorted into the expected house. I'm not saying right, just expected. You and I, we've had a long time to adjust to the fact that sometimes life doesn't go the way you'd expect it to. James is just starting to learn that." He smiled, "I'm sure it won't be long before he comes to his senses."

"That's true. I just...He's my brother, you know? I just want him to be happy for me, and be able to accept me for who I am and who I'm in love with." He ran his fingers along the polished wood of his guitar, his thoughts jumbled as he tried to voice them to Teddy. "I hate feeling like the big disappointment of the family."

"And you're not wrong to want that, either." Teddy smiled, "Isn't that the definition of family? People that except you, good and bad, no matter what? James just needs to realize that." He watched Al fiddle with his guitar and felt sadness come over him. Al shouldn't have to go through this, not from his brother. He shook his head when Al spoke and the thoughts vanished, a small smile appearing on his lips. "Al," he said, "Do you really think the Potter family has any disappointments? Because when I hear people talk about you guys," he couldn't say 'us', yet still felt weird dissociating himself from them, "it's always stuff like, 'The Potters can do anything they want, become anything they want.' You're becoming what you want, aren't you? And isn't that all your family wants for you?"

Al smiled at Teddy's words, feeling instantly comforted by them. He returned the smile and set his guitar down to the side, rather than on his lap. "True. I am doing what I want, and I want James to be able to accept that and be happy for me. I didn't expect it to happen right away, but...I've been with Scorpius for a few months now and...nothing." He looked over at Ted, smiling sadly at the direction their conversation had headed. "And hey," he added, lightly nudging Teddy with his shoulder. "You're a Potter too, you know. People might call you Lupin, but I'll always think of you as one of us. You've always like another big brother to me." The big brother James stopped trying to be.

AW, I LOVE AL. Okay, posting now...

Teddy was surprised that Al had been with Scorpius for a few months and he had heard nothing of it. Granted, it had been a while since he'd seen any member of the Potter family, but this seemed like big news. Letter worthy, even. He smiled when Al told him he thought of him as a big brother, "Thanks, Al. I have, too. And I'm really glad I have you as part of my family." Speaking of the family, he had to ask, "So, have you told your parents yet? I won't tell anyone if you haven't, I was just curious."

"Oh." He sighed and shook his head in reply to Teddy's question. "My mum knows. I told over the fall break," he said, because it wasn't Thanksgiving break. British people don't do that. "She was really understanding and accepting, but I still haven't mentioned it to my dad. I don't think he's going to take it well. I don't think he'll have a problem with me being gay, but...he always had a problem with Malfoys when he was growing up and now I'm dating the son of the guy who tried to ruin his life in school."

Teddy shrugged, "I'm sure your dad won't take it too badly. And if he does, your mom would probably hurt him." He laughed, "Besides, I could always talk to him. If I can get past the Malfoy thing, anyone can, and I'm sure he knows that." He looked at Al, unhappy to see him upset. Al was probably one of the people he was the closest to. Closer, even, than he was to his god-father. They just seemed to get each other a lot of the time. "On a happier subject, you finally got a boyfriend. I think people were wondering if you had what it takes." He teased.

"I think this is a conversation I have to have with him, myself, but thanks for the offer," he said with a grateful smile. "And you're right. My mum wouldn't let him get away with being too mad. It's my life and I can't only do what he expects of me. I need to put myself first every now and then." He found himself smiling more genuinely now, enjoying Teddy's company and finding his words comforting. He wondered why he didn't go to Teddy earlier about this. He always seemed to know what to say. "I did! Looks like I won't be growing old alone, after all," he said with a laugh.

Teddy laughed, "And on the subject of not growing old alone, I'm dating someone, too." He figured that since he had asked so many unhappy questions, he could be at least a little forthcoming about himself. "Or, I asked her on a date. We haven't actually gone yet." He smiled, tapping his fingers absentmindedly on the table beside him. "Her name's Claire. Know of her?"

"Claire? Hmm. No, I don't know her, but that's awesome!" He grinned, happy that Teddy had a date. He was an awesome guy who deserved to be with somebody amazing. Any girl would be lucky to snag a date with him. "And she said yes! Lucky her. A date with the Teddy Lupin. Anyone who gets to date a Potter/Lupin is a lucky person. Do you know where you'll be taking her? Valentine's day is coming up, after all."

Teddy laughed at Al, "Yeah, we're quite a bunch to date, aren't we?" He thought about where to take her for a moment before saying, "Somewhere in Hogsmeade, for sure. We've come to the mutual agreement that Hogwarts is getting dull. I don't plan on doing anything special for Valentines day, because we just met, but I think I'll ask her to the Valentine's ball. That should be enough, right?" He asked Al, "And will you be going?"

"Hogsmeade is always a good choice. Always something to do there. And I think that'll be cool. Girls love being asked to balls. At least, I think they do." He shrugged. "I...I don't know if I'll be going." He couldn't exactly see Scorpius as the dancing type. Honestly, Al wasn't really into the whole slow dancing scene either. "Scorp and I will probably just spend the night in the dorm while everyone is off at the ball."

"Exactly. If you get bored, you can just go to Honeydukes. No need for words there." Teddy smiled slightly when Al told him he probably wouldn't be going to the ball, "Don't worry, it's not for everyone. Besides, not going to the ball is probably cooler than going. It is a school dance, after all. And then you have the air of mystery, everyone wonders what you could possibly be doing that is cooler then going to a ball." He nodded, and smiled when he added, "As you might be able to tell, I've thought this through."

Al laughed and nudged his shoulder into Teddy's again. He sort of regretted not talking to Teddy more often in the past this semester, but he was definitely planning on changing that now. "I forgot how awesome you are. Why don't we hang out more often?" he asked teasingly. "I guess you've got a point there. By the day after Valentine's, everyone will be wondering what Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Potter were up to the night before. We'll be the talk of the school."

Teddy laughed, "Seventh year is busy, that must be it. But, hey, we have a lot of the same classes. We could always study, if we're so cool that we have nothing better to do." He was just kidding about the cool part, really. He would have been more than happen to get a little more studying done. That was just his dad showing through, is what his grandmother always said. "If you're not the talk of the school, I'll spread some rumours to make sure you get there. How do you feel about people thinking you accidentally charmed Scorpius to have monkey ears?"

"Well, I could probably use a study buddy, seeing as I have NEWTs coming up and I'm no where near ready." He cocked an eyebrow at Teddy's suggestion, then shook his head. "No, no, no. If you're going to start a rumor about me then you have to at least make sure it's a good one. Monkey ears? Really? That is...so lame. You have to tell people something awesome that will make them all think I'm cooler than I really am."

Teddy laughed again, "What would prefer? I could tell people that you made polyjuice potion and tricked Scorpius into drinking it. Then he turned into Dumbledore and refused to go to the ball without getting a haircut. But, of course, no salons would take him." Yup. Teddy would seriously enjoy telling that one. "As for how you got Dumbledore's hair..." He thought about that for a moment, "Well, I guess we can leave that up to speculation."
